i think racism!!! is largely a myth anymore

But you are comparing states that maintain 12%-18% differentials, regardless of the democrat running in the election. Take 15% out of that spread and bias isn't really that large.

Agreed,

White men in the Southern States normally vote Republican overwhelmingly.

Whats the video from the 1970's where the women speaker seperates the audience? Calls one half blue people and the other red or something like that? I think she was a elementary school teacher? Did some studies in her classroom that were very interesting. I'll see if they have it on YOUTUBE

Youtube is strictly for those pain montage things. I'll be damned if I go there to learn something.

Alabama
McCain 88%
Obama 10%

Mississippi
McCain 88%
Obama 11%

South Carolina
McCain 73%
Obama 26%

Kentucky
McCain 63%
Obama 36%

Seriously. How much of a beatdown do you need? I already conceded Repubs normally win those states so I'll give you a 15-20 point edge no problem. These point differentials almost defy logic though.

And yet again you stick with a very small portion of the overall political landscape.

Let's look at:

New York
Sex by race John McCain Barack Obama
White men (34%) 50% 48%
White women (37%) 43% 57%
Black men (7%) - 100%
Black women (10%) 1% 99%

Florida
Sex by race John McCain Barack Obama
White men (35%) 55% 42%
White women (36%) 57% 42%
Black men (5%) 5% 95%
Black women (8%) 3% 97%

Virginia
Sex by race John McCain Barack Obama
White men (32%) 61% 37%
White women (38%) 59% 40%
Black men (10%) 11% 89%
Black women (10%) 6% 94%

We're not talking about the overall political landscape. The issue is whether racism still exists. Call me simple but I think data from five states meets that standard. We can both agree he won the election.

Glad you finally worked-around to the point I wanted to make!

Discrimination and racism are two different things. Discrimination is simply responding differently to to differing situations. Racism is a belief that one race is superior than the other.

You and I discriminate all day, every day.

When I go to Wal-Mart, if I see one really heavy, sluggish-looking check-out cashier and one skinny, more energetic-looking one, I'll pick the skinnier one. I just discriminated.

When I go to a clothes store, I'll find the well turned-out salesperson -- the one who dresses like I'd want to dress (well, either that or a gay guy, those guys know how to dress). And alas, I have discriminated yet again.

If I go to McDonalds and one cashier (who's going to be handling my food) looks clean and well-groomed, and the other looks shaggy and a little disheveled, I'll pick the better-groomed one. And yet again, I have discriminated.

So if the goal is to end all forms of discrimination, that's never, ever, ever going to happen. No educational system, no government program, no repairations, not nothing is ever going to fix that.

As far as racism goes, sure they'll always be a fringe movement who thinks one race is superior to another. And there will always be a group that's certain they were abducted by aliens and received an anal probe as well. I even heard a guy on the radio today who believes in the "hollow Earth" where supposedly aliens live along with animals we believe to be long-extinct.

So bottom line? I agree with the original premise of the post bino made. Racism is largely a myth, relegated to the fringes of society. You'll be able to point toward discriminatory behaviors from time-to-time, but racial bias is now no stronger than biases toward age, gender, body composition, education level, income or the number of teeth in someone's head.

I said this before on another post: If you want to go on a campaign to help a group that's being discriminated against, go help unattractive, overweight females. That's got to be the most discriminated-against group on the planet, bar none.

McCain won all the Southern states. If you look at each one I'm sure the numbers will be similar. I use Georgia because that's where I'm from. White men in Tennessee chose McCain 64% to 31%.

North Carolina? Virginia?
