Ok, can now PICK3's obligatory personal commentary (aka my attempt to piss on all digi's options to muddy the water :) )

Although mid-size trucks are lesser machines than their full-size counter parts, e.g. Titan, there's no appreciable savings in purchase price OR mpg

Butt this is impressive vs full-size:

i'm still actually considering the fullsize one (titan) as well...i'm just thinking about the days when my wife has to drive it which, during wrestling season will be quite often because i am usually hauling a number of kids...we are going on friday and we are coming back with a vehicle...her opinion will likely be the deciding factor...the smaller truck has leather seats and a killer stereo and some other stuff that will make my travels more enjoyable/comfortable...we shall see :)

my experience with both nissan's and honda's is that they are basically bulletproof...they never break...i haven't put a penny into any of the ones that i've owned other than brakes, tires and exhaust and i've put a boatload of miles on them (150,000+)...toyota's are the same way, however, model-to-model toyota's are about $10,000 more than nissan's and, although they tend to get better gas mileage, i did the math and determined that, to make up the difference in price with the better mileage, i'd have to drive the toyota for 20 years...so, all other things being equal, it's kind of a no-brainer.

I know you've had exceptional service with the Sexterra, butt in terms of reliability/dependability Nissan can't be mentioned in the same sentence as Toyota and Honda for many years now.

In several segments it's knot even remotely close.

Yaris/Fit far superior to Versa
Corrola/Civic far superior to Sentra
Camry/Accord far superior to Altima
Sienna/Odyssey far superior to Quest

The Sexterra is an exception. I was speaking to someone at work last week who was touting his F150 as it approached 240k miles. He says it starts and runs like the day he took if from the dealership :whatever:

if you're using the zagg, there are always bubbles at first and then they go away in a couple days

This. I was convinced I had fucked it up royally...squeegeed the hell out of it in desperation trying to get rid of the bubbles, and eventually gave up figuring I was f-ed. Then after 2 days, it was perfection.

in each of those instances, the nissan product is (generally) far cheaper but (with proper pm) will run just as long...are they a little more generic? yes, butt, i'm a cpa...i couldn't give two shites about all those extra creature comforts and a few mileage-related squeaks and rattles can be easily drowned out with proper stereo wattage :)

oh and, comparing a vehicle that has lived its entire life in the deep south to one that has lived its entire life in the northeast, is one of those apples-and-oranges thingies :)

a base Yaris is approaching as "cheap" as you can get, butt finding a moar bullet proof vehicle at ANY price wood be difficult ... in a contest I could only imagine picking a 4 cylinder Tacoma (mainly because of RWD) over it

likewise there's no disputing Honda's quality. the current generation Civic that rates near the bottom of every published review and has fallen from the CR recommended list still can't be questioned in terms of build quality and reliability

Nissan's (or most brands) just don't measure up irregardless of price, e.g. a Maxima will be considerably moar problematic than the cheapest Toyota/Honda, e.g. Yaris/Fit

i certainly wasn't including "creature" comforts, OR any other attribute, just reliability/dependability

agreed, any fair comparison would have to represent similar owner's demographics of driver's age, climate, etc ...

I can't believe guys in the US would choose to buy a Yaris if they could afford something else. I'm in South Africa and even here its considered a piece of crap. It's the dullest car to drive.
