i suck at lifting

Sub-Zero

ive come to the conclusion that i straight up suck at lifting. sure im a little weak, but thats not what im talking about. i am talking about the actual act of lifting.

when im in the gym i psych myself out, and try and do all out, but i just dont ever put the effort i want to put in. i do every set fine, but sometimes in my last set ill get to one i should do but cant, and when i am done i think, okay next time i reach a rep i cant do im going to fuck it and get really mad and blast through it and tap into the strength i havnt been able to.

but when i do it i never seem to think that way. i also cant even breath correctly. either i speed through sets too fast and dont breath at all, or i mess up my breathing and start breathing out on the way down.

so tonight i only had one good set, and that was one of my ending dip sets where i was able to focus and actually push myself the way i want to push myself :worried:

How long have you been lifting? Maybe you're stressed, and that's causing lack of focus/concentration. Try to relax, put some headphones on with your favorite music, and focus on those weights. If you're new, it'll come in time.

just have fun with it man...dont get to down on yourself. If its your breathing thats messing you up, just work on it. If your breathing gets off, dont worry, just keep lifting and fix it on the next set. Or adjust your breathing when during the set...really no big deal. It all comes with time...just dont give up!!

you are at an advantage as you already know what you NEED to do. you said it yourself... now just do it.

push yourself
breathe correctly
focus yourself
tap into your true strength

knowing what to do is 1/2 the battle.

Yes I agree with time will solve your problems. The mind/muscle connection will improve as the workouts go by. I know you`re just starting out from what you`bve told me already. Give it a little time and the "groove" will come.

I can`t really explain the breathing, it just comes naturally. I would think you should exhale after the sticking point. I`m not saying to breathe once during a rep but I think that may work with the exhaing after the hardest portion of the rep. Someone else may chime in about that.

Hey brother!! Youll have to work on making every set intense to get the most from your routine. You have to find a strong source of motivation and exercises you yearn to progress in. When you have that drive youll fight to the end doing whatever it takes. Ive always been driven by my rage which translates into alot of adrenaline fueling my workouts. If my motivation was to be healthy I wouldnt even lift weights. Try to work on your breathing also, if your about to suffocate during sets, you wont be getting the optimum reps and intensity from each set. Dont exagerrate the breathing either. Just go by how it feels. Remember that one good set and try to duplicate that intensity and focus for each set.

Think before each set, think about breathing how much you're going to lift and how sore you're going to be the next day. Show the weight who's boss

Two words....

.......FOCUS and RELAX.

That is all you have to do. Don't get yourself worked up about what you did or didn't lift last time. That is history. Concentrate on what is on the bar today. My best way to relax, is to close my eyes and visualize the lift, take a few deep breaths and then do it.

i've been pumping myself up a lot prior to sets as 5x5 is getting harder. i just put my head down and start breathing fast and hard. once i've done that for a minute or so, it seems to naturally get my adreniline pumping and has helped me numerous times to pull that last bit of energy out to get a set completed. now, do that 5 sets in a row like i did on thursday.....there was no way i could casually go and pick up that bar and curl it through 5 sets. so i got myself psyched up, and the bar rose to me every rep like it should've.

but the breathing during the sets you gotta work on too. as smurfy said, you know what you gotta work on, now do it! :)

Agreed. sometimes we are our own worst critic for no good reason..Sounds like you've analyzed your training thoroughly and seek improvements each session..Just being aware of areas you want to improve in will make it happen..youll have one session where all your ducks fall in line..keep plugging away bro
