Don Henley wrote some biting, observant, true to life song lyrics in the late 70's and 80's; words that truly reflected the attitudes and mores of America at the time.

if one would read just they lyrics one would be surprised at what a perceptive observer of the economic and political climate of that time he was/is.

Its meaning seems obvious if you just hear the chorus but it's really sounds like a critique of crooked American war politics guised by the taking a girl's virginity.

thanks for the link. one of my all time fav songs...it was SO "on point" and relevant when it appeared in the early 80's.

henley may (or may not be) a whinny prick in person; but he wrote some damn perceptive song lyrics in the '70's and '80's.

Chics love that song too. Even though most of them have no idea what it's really about. Hell if I care how whiny Henley sounds if he can write decent lyrics and put a decent melody behind it.
