Although I used to sneek in to concerts, clubs and raves all the time, it's been years since I snuck in anywhere without paying, it just feels too juvenile these days.
I went out to the Knitting Factory in Hollywood last night to see this band called Guitar Wolf from Japan, I've been waiting forever for them to come to the US. Doors opened at 8:00, I showed up a little after 9:00 and the show was already sold out. I was very bummed out and wanted to kick myself in the ass for not buying pre-sale tickets. I was meeting my cousin and his GF there so I hung out and waited for them to show up to tell them the bad news. It turns out that my cousins GF has a friend that DJ's there on certain nights and he had told her that it is very easy to sneek in and told her how. So we walked behind the place, where the bands load and unload their equipment. Right away it looked like an impossible mission, there was a big black bouncer blocking the back entrance.
We waited for a few minutes acting non-challant, and talking to some dudes in a band that were loading up their equipment. Then the bouncer walked away, a few minutes later he hadn't come back so we decided to go for it. It was so simple! We walked right to a door that lead back stage, every one looked at us but nobody gave a fuck, we just walked right out into the main floor. I was so stoked!
The band was awesome, one of the best fucking shows I've been to in a while, well worth the trip and the wait. Unfortunately, since they sing in Japanese, i don't know any of the lyrics so I couldn't sing along with the songs liek one normally does at a gig, I could only pump my fist in the air in certian key parts.
When the band finished, every one stuck around for the usual encore. After a few minutes, the band came back out, did about 3 long songs and left the stage again, then the crowd headed for the doors. Well, about 5 mins later, with about half of the people gone, they came back out for another fucking set. The singer, in his broken English said "haha, I kid you!", and they played for another 20 minutes or so, to a half empty place. Fucking awesome!
The only bummer is that I aggravated my injured knee, only I'm not sure it's related to my previosu injury. I had done 45 mins cardio and worked calfs earlier in the evening, then I jumped around in the pit all night. I felt perfectly fine until I was walking to my car, suddenly I got this nasty pain in my left knee where I am healing from stretched ligaments, and a cartiledge tear. However, my knee hurts on the back, in the calfs region so I'm thinking/hoping that it's either a pulled muscle or tendon related rather than something to do with the previous injuries. Right now, I can't put weight on it, I'm limping pretty bad and I'm wearing my knee brace again. I'm hoping that it's something that goes away whithin a few days, I don't want to take any more time off from work, so if it doesn't feel any better by Monday I guess I'll go se the doc.
Either way, I had a blast!
