I need some job advice-->

I am having a hard time making any decent money and the job market sucks here in So Cal- I am thinking about going to a quick tech/vocational school- what would be the fastest way to get training to make some decent cash? Massage tech? Computer Certification? Cosmotology school? I could make money at those but they take 10 months- 1 year of full time school. Kinda hard to afford that when you have high rent and bills to pay. What could I do (besides drug dealing.hehe) that I could make some fairly quick money at? I have done sales, customer service- that kind of crap, but it dosen't pay much here. Life sucks when your broke!! I just need to make a decent living so I have a little extra money.

if you are hot enough and don't have a history of cocaine problems then i would say strip.

I wish i knew how to help.

here is a list of 'all' the professions in america, and what educational requirements they need.

http://www.bls.gov/oco/home.htm

I'm not in the industry, but i doubt a computer certificate will amount to anything.

maybe you can get a certificate via distance learning.

most technician & assistant jobs (look up assistant or technician in the link i gave above) require a certificate or associates degree, but some have 'on the job' training and accelerated courses. Perhaps you can look into that.

and look up 'accelerated degree programs', some might give you a certificate or associates degree in about 6 months.

last but not least, try a diploma mill.

Thanks for the advice and the link. I have experience in a bunch of differant things but for the last 10 years or so I have done customer service, sales(inside, retail and call center),auto detailing, web design and whatever else I could get into. I am a huge computer nerd-Mac's anyway. However I dont really have any specific skill like Flash that could make me money. Since leaving a good job when I moved here to So Cal I haven't been able to make decent money. Never should have left the good job I suppose but that is the chances you take in life I guess. My main focus is my band but it is a catch 22, I need enough money to pay my bills and a little left over to afford things like recording and equipment. Ironic how when you are a struggling musician you cannot afford good equipment and then when you make it they give it to you for free even though you could actually afford it then. Anyway, I just need some kind of solid skill set. I went to college for awhile but I only have about 38 credit hours. I also went to audio engineering school but that was more for my own interests- I never tried to get a job in a studio or anything. I am looking into something I could learn quickly or something I can get into without having to go to school for a long time. My girl has a degree and she is still bartending because she cannot find a job in her field(environmental)- crazy how things work that way.

Thought about it but at 5'11" @197 I am not quite big enough to be a believable PT. Does it even pay well? I would need to at least put on some size first before anyone would listen to what I tell them...hehe.:D

hell no. size isn't everything. knowledge. there are a couple of skinny pt's at my gym(bout my size:rolleyes: ) and I take it they are making enough to live comfortable. make your own hours, and workout when you fel like it. it's kind of like being a mechanic to a shop, so to speak. ask HI more bout this.

You and I are about the same size I think- I am 5'11" @196. I am looking to get up around 205-210 at anything close to 8%bf :) I will look into the trainer thing, thanks. Most of the trainers I used to see at my gym in Florida were huge guys but usually were wearing some goofy ass joey buddafouco pants or something..haha. Are you going to street scene this year?

You don't have to big big to be a PT. Some of the smartest people I know in th field are downright puny. It's not how YOU look, It's how you can make THEM look.

if you can, go back to school, or go to school (college I mean). For the average guy, the money isn't there, so why dick around getting paid shit. By the time you graduate hopefully the economy will be booming again, or we'll all be dead.

Please don't do tech certs.

You won't learn enough to get a job you will be happy with.

I used to work for a company selling computer certs so I pretty much agree about that. I went to college for awhile- I have around 38 credit hours- woopy! I dont really want to go back for that long. Anyway my girl just graduated college with honors last year- environmental science- she cant find a job besides lab work in her field. As it is I would need to go for 10 months full time(14 months part time) to get a cosmotology liscence which I could make good money with. I dont think I can afford to go full time and work full time and also play gigs- I am looking into if that is even a possibilty for me. I have a friend who is a hairstylist/colorist and he makes about a grand a week part time. Not bad at all, however, like I said I am concentrating on my band- that is why I moved here. I just need a decent living- shit, 500 bucks a week take home would be enough for me to get by and do my music. Sucks when your talented but you cannot do the thing you are talented at. I appreciate all of you giving me advice. Do you think I should look into the PT thing? Their flexibilty and freedom is a huge plus.

Look at all the top trainers that are really getting rich. They are not bber's. being tone is the key. Don't waste your time with the short certifications. You still won't make much and will have loans to pay back. keep going to school for a full degree. If you have the personality sales can be great money. Medical field and car sales in particular. Good luck.
