I have a decision to make. I was offered the lead role in a production that wil be at Seven Stages in Atlanta. I was also offered my choice of roles(Lenny or George) in Of Mice and Men with my regular local group.

Of course the productions overlap and I have to chose.

Benefits to Atlanta show:

Lead Role
Seen in Atlanta
A little pay - but not much

Cons:

I would have to sing a short song, and I don't sing.... I could pull it off with some work as it is a twangy country tune and I have a tenor voice so it would be passable - barley

The script and character both are very weak and it would be difficuklt to be outstanding in the role(althoigh some very god actors got their start form crappy films, etc)

Benefits to local show:

Playing Lenny would be very challenging but it is a role I have wanted to do for a long time

Be with the same basic cast that I was with in Streetcar - I love those guys and the chemistry is outstanding

Less travel time

Cons:

Part of me needs to be in Atlanta to be seen by agents out there.

Less exposure.

I am considering doing the Mice show and sending out comp tickets to the agents in Atlanta to get them to come see our group.

What would you do and why?

Havoc - that's the problem.

I really don't KNOW which will take my career a step further....being good on larger stage or being fucking outstanding on a smaler stage

Well, from the sounds of things, you seem to be a bad ass at what you do, maybe do the more difficult part for you then, take your ass to Atlanta and sing Mr. Baritone.

That sounds like a good idea.....I also think respect as far as your loyalty to your current co-actors will be noted.

This is easy...go for Mice or Men, Play Lenny, you'll do great.

Wait...I just realized that Of Mice and Men isn't in Atlanta.

My world has just dissolved into a cocaine induced nightmare.

I change my vote to stay home and do Of Mice and Men, Play Lenny, Tend those Rabbits ant send out the tickets.

My heart tells me to do Mice........I just don't wanna miss out on a possible big opportunity.

....but then again - the writier of the ATlanta show saw me in at little show we did whereI played the Gay dog trainer..so.....

Do the show that will make you happy.

Besides, how does one know if a big producer or talent scout will be in one audience from another? One never knows where they look for talent......

I think it's time to flip a coin.

Stay local and send the complimentary tickets.

A bad role in the biggest of productions can kill any momentum you've already built up to. It's the good roles that will get you noticed, not necessarily the big production.

lol @ Paulos . . .

good advice...thanks guys...just need someone to tel me that I am not fucking this thing up.......

I'm also pulling for the Mice to be in conjunction with a fund raiser for a local kid who need s a kidney transplant.....her mother was in Streetcar as the FLower Lady

Damn Paulos - nice recall.

Did you see the movie??

Which version - Brando or Baldwin?

I read the book and saw the movie. Brando.

Man he used to have a pretty good physique, especially for his time. He looked damn good in the movie.

(I mean that in the most non homosexual way possible)

Mal and Gary Sinese were in a recent production of Mice - watching him solidified my desire to do that role

Brando was the fucking man - shame that most do not realize what a powerhouse he was in his prime

I just realized Of Mice and Men was the first movie I ever cried at...I think. Maybe Bambi before that. I was about 10 when my mom took me to see it when it came out in theatres (The John Malkovich version).

I read the book a few times after when I was 12 or so. I should read it again sometime.

...that is why i wanna do that role.

Just like Stanley - it fucking tears people up - the woman who was Blanche is a very good friend of mine....her best friend came into town for the show....the friend spoke to everyone in the reception line except for me.......she then e-mailed Blanche and told her to pass along how great I was ...but at the time she was too pissed to speak to me - lololol

I think you should stay local. The comp tickets sounded like a good idea, and there will be other opportunities to perform elsewhere, will there not? It sounds like you're heart is with your local troup, but part of you is saying to get some balls and step out of your comfort zone. I'd go with your heart in this case- stay where you are for now. It sounds solid.
