i went to a website and it asked me of it was cool to trust "xupiter.com"

i said yes and now i got some weird ass toolbar on my msie and xupiter is trying to be my start up. even though i got rid of the toolbar and changed my start up i can't get rid of it. sometimes i'll just be surfing and xupiter will pop up in its own window. i wanna know how to get rid of this crap

thanks

someone else pointed out on a recent AA thread that if you go to the site where you got the stuff - xupiter.com I guess in this case - they usually have a link/button that says "uninstall this shit" or something like that.

if all else fails, you could just learn to love it.

Oh fuck! The notorious xupiter bug.....you have to throw the whole setup away, and then set fire to it! Quickly!

Tools / options / certificates / Delete the cert for x.

Then go to your settings / control panel and unistall the tool bar utilities.

Embrace xupiter.
Xupiter is your friend.
Xupiter wants what is best for *you*.

I run mozilla on my macs (which are "toolbar" free) and have them set to only display raw html (with frames)or xml. No images, pop-ups, or activX shit.

but Code, the google toolbar is actually useful.

I know, problem is I'm paranoid. The google toolbar is a "gateway toolbar", next thing you know I'll have the CNN ticker, a weather.com toolbar and *gasp* an ESPN toolbar....

a guy I used to work with had the google toolbar and the yahoo toolbar.
I never got the sense in that.

the google one is really fuckin snazzlicious though. I don't know how I got by without it.

I asked one of my guys why he had both toolbars once, he said the yahoo toolbar got installed by default when he installed Yahoo IM.

He quickly realized he had just admitted to breaking company security policy by having IM software installed at work.

at this point you assfucked him until the cows came home?

or when was that? I would have done that first, then asked the questions later.
ahh, hell - who am I kidding - I wouldn't have asked questions - because in the end, who cares?!

There are tons of these spyware type tricks.
I installed a watcher and Cleaner from lavasoft to either run all
the time and alert, or just when I want to kick this hidden crap off my machine.

not to mention it will find stuff on a page for you, hilite things, and you can search within a site as well.

it also has protein folding software if you care about that sort of stuff - I have mine turned off since I use the distributed.net client instead right now (just released the new one).
