I need bicepts 101

This past 8 weeks, I have been dedicating myself to finnally working out my bicepts. After 8 years of the gym,Im ready for bicepts, I have huge back arms "for my size" of 165, and people flip out when I flex it, but...on the other hand, everyone always flexes there bicepts, so Im on a bicept kick, except I cant get them sore. LET ME EXPLAIN!!!

Like everyone else, at the gym,my bicepts will get sore to the point of not being able to life, but when I come home, rest over night, wake up, NO SOAR BICEPTS!!! After 8 weeks of being fed up with that, Friday I worked out my bicepts for 45 minutes doing 18 sets of 8-12 depending on machine/bb/db/etc. Just to name a few, I do the preacher curl, stand up curl, arm on inner thigh for one DB at a time,I use cables as well. Well Im a little soar, but not enough, back side of my elbow I can feel a lil soarness(the stretch of the movement, probably causing that)but no where else do I feel soar, "the ball",well, I can flex it all day long, doesnt hurt at all. I feel that 18 sets is OVERKILL, but I tried to shock emm. Any recommendations

I am 23 165lbs 6ft tall 8 years experience (first 3 years I regret, but thats a long story in itself ) My diet right now is not to gain weight, even tho that is ultimately my goal in the long run. I am eating tuna everyday, chicken, eggs, potatoes, and almost anything I can get my hands on for calorie/carb/protein/calcium/vitamin intake. I try not to eat UNhealthy, but not affraid to indulge,as a 6 pak is not for me,not interested in them muscles.

Any help would be appreciated....

maybe try some new exercises or give yourself a week or two off lifting, just try everything you can think of, low volume, high volume, low or high reps, b/c everyone responds differently

i just watched scarface today. you remind me of them cubans. MY BICEPTS AIN'T SOAR MAING!

seriously, 8 yrs of experience?

just do curls, there's nothing magical about biceps

My biceps never get sore either. Just doesn't happen. but they still put on good size when I bulk

I been kinda going through a few posts, and it sounds like im not alone on this. 8 years experience, Been pretty much into this since freshmen year of hs at 13 years old (young freshmen I know)but I would say my sophmore year or so...or 1.5 years later...where I gained great knowledge, for my age at the time, of course I know more today than I did 5 and 3 and a year ago, obviously keeps growing, but sometimes my body acts in differnent ways and I gotta still ask questions. I can only say that I have been very dedicated this past 3-4 months, and have seen alot of results, but still not where I want to be. I feel like I may have finnally hit a "growth spurt" in my body, but Im seeing twice to three times the growth in the past 3 or 4 months than in possibly 2 years.

I just took 6 days off from the gym do to a motorcycle accident I had in front of my house, spun a donut at about 5mph on accident, Ran over some type of fluid in garage or driveway....lil roadrash and soarness. These crotch rockets have a mind of there own.

As far as switching up some excercises....I just started doing bicepts 8 weeks ago, and every week, I have been seeing and reading different techniques and procedures....and trying new bicept movements, trying to figure it my non soaring problem. I guess while im here I should ask the top two excercises to make the ball of the bicept stick straight up??? ANyone? I need to start the "peak of the mountain" lol

What are bicepTs???

DOMS/soreness has no correlation to a workout's effectiveness at stimulating growth or strength, neither does the "pump" by the way. If someone tells you otherwise they need to do some research and stop reading Flex.

It's really hard to grow a muscle in isolation and beyond a certain threshold it simply won't grow any more. Look at all the noodlearms hitting bicepts with every concievable exercise, pattern, superset, giantset, etc...If there was some magic combo to grow a bicept, these guys would have hit on it by sheer brute force of trying every method out there.

At 6' and 165 with 8 years of training, you need to be focusing on increasing your deadlift, squat, bent row, and bench. Put 80lbs on your best deadlift and 40 on your row, your arms will certainly be bigger and some basic BB curls will fluff them out for you. Plenty of guys with massive arms who never bother to train them directly or simply use some basic curl one a week for 3 sets - of course they squat, press, and pull like beasts. I'd also increase the diet substantially, and I don't mean egg whites - eat a lot, if that's quarter pounders at McD's so be it, they never stopped anyone from getting big and strong. If you are fairly lean at 6' 165 there is a possibility that this may be part of the problem.

shit the only thing that ever gets sore on me is my legs. other then that, no soreness, maybe a little stiffness depending on how i slept, but soreness doesnt mean anything.

Well, I guess all I can do is keep goin on about my bicep/bicept workout lol. I do know that I spell it wrong,as almost everyone does for some reason. I remember searching the internet long ago and it saying "did you mean biceps"but a bazillion hits came up on the search spelling it with a T. Anyhow, good point.

I guess, I will just hit them hard and go from there

madcow2 gave you some good advice. I didnt really notice my arms grow until I started doing heavy compound movements like deadlifts, bent barbell rows and pull ups. you should also lower the volume. try about 8 sets but train them twice per week.
