I need a Training Partner!

No, I'm not saying I *can't* do it alone - it just would be nice. From what I've read, most ppl really think it's beneficial. Sometimes it's just tiresome being a lone chick pumping iron.

Anyone out there in Maryland?

How did you find your training partner? Any suggestions for getting one?

Thanks

I'm lifting with a trainer right now but I'll be sad when I'm doing it alone. I like working with someone else because I find I get less unsolicited male attention. I'm at the gym to sweat and wear myself out....not to prace around looking for attention. Curious to see what other people say.

What about a spouse / boyfriend? Its nice having a hobby together :)
Oops, shoulda mentioned this before. My boyfriend is not into fitness whatsoever - fortunately for him he was blessed with simply astounding genetics & he looks as though he puts time & effort into his physique  - Yeah, I'm jealous!

BUT.... he & I HATE each other when we work out together. I'm way too serious & hard-core for him. He wants to joke around - yeah, he'll work, but he still keeps a light hearted & laid back attitude about it. He'll tease me about my intensity & then I get irritated. Then he teases me about the fact that I'm annoyed & well... you get the point :argue:

PLUS - & this is the biggest problem. He already thinks I'm too muscular. He pretends to  when I flex & thinks the Muscle & Fitness Hers models look like men.

A training partner should have the same goals as you. My goal is to gain muscle, his goal for me is to get implants & let my biceps & delts atrophy a bit. :bawling: So I'll have a playboy model look.

p.s. I've debated a trainer, but I want to do my program design myself (I love that... studying for my trainer certification myself!) & I can't bring myself to pay someone just to spot & keep me company. Plus I'd rather it be a *partner* - like we're in it together.

I've had a lot of offers for my guy friends to train w/ me and I usually beg out because I can't stand waiting for my partner to finish his set when I"m on a timed interval between sets LOL! I get some good spots from my buds at the gym and that's enough for me.

Its just too annoying to have to adjust my training routine because they want to do back when my schedule says I"m doing hams & abs or they wanted to do a "cheat day" when I have a heavy leg day planned. I've been screwed too many times when I get into the habit of becoming dependent upon someone else to get my training done. I hate to say it, but my training sessions are my "mental therapy" periods each day -- and I really turn into a bitch if I'm invited to train w/ someone and they are making me deviate from my intended schedule. And a few times I've had the guy say "You don't want to lift too much - you should go lighter and do more reps..." Yea ... and you should start running now so by the time I catch you I"ll only have enough energy to pull off one nut instead of the whole package..... ;) (I told you I turn into a bitch when my training gets interrupted...!)

But each to his/her own -- if you can find someone who motivates you and complements your training, then go for it.

I joined a new gym late last year and I met my partners simply by observing the way they worked out and then asking them straight out if they wanted to work out together. It is very difficult for me to find partner(s) because I am extremely intense. And most women in this are do not work out intensely. I am fortunate that these gals didn't hightail it after the first week of training together:D

BTW, you could try getting a male partner if your S/O doesn't mind. Men can really give you the extra push @ times.

Later,
Renee
