I need a new TV (this is a K thread)

Mine is a Hitachi lcd 46".I dont know alot of models but I know Circuit City is going out of business, might want to check there.I do know that Sony and Samsung make great ones.

Just hit a Sam's Club or Costco. There really isn't that much difference in the TV now. I saw a nice 32 inch with built in DVD player for cheap at Target a few days ago.

Only thing to worry about is what the TV decodes. Analog, analog and digital.

That is a great price.I just bought one for my nephew and his new wife ,Samsung 42 I think it was, from HH gregg, like 1500 or so.Real nice.

i bought a great 50" phillips plasma for $1200 at wal mart over a year ago and its been a great tv!

????? I have a 53 inch and I'm about 10-12 feet away. That 37 inch is a good deal and would be useful in a pretty good size room. You said under 40 inches but you didn't say a price. If you look around you can get a 40 inch or a little bigger for a reasonable amount of money. You didn't really nail down what you're after?

I'm only thinking under 40 because it will replace a 35

HD I Have a couch that sits about 8 - 10 feet away but I have a lounge chair that sits to the side about 5 foot away, with no problem at all viewing.

samsung is the best value nowadays

High end sonys, panasonic and sharp are all out of your price range 2K and up for those 40 inch and up

lol@ all tv's are the same

I would go with a samsung, they are good tv's.

However stay away from tv's with built in dvd players in them. The dvd players are weaker and more flimsy than a typical dvd player. Thus the issue becomes that the unit falls off of the tracks and then will not recognize that there is a movie in. They are a pain in the ass. I have gone through 3 tv's with built in dvd players. The tvs work great pic quality is awesome but the dvd players suck and fall off of tracks unless you are super gentle and I have 3 kids gentle is not in our vocab.

I don't know about the 1080p sets...but I have a 50in Panasonic Plasma (720p) that has a better picture (not just my opinion read the reviews on the Panasonic's) that any tv I have seen and it was around $1,300.

It was a wedding gift so I cant remember where it was purchased from...but they can be found.

And Although I've never compared them side by side everyone seems to say that to the naked eye you cant see a difference between 720p and 1080p.

"lol@ all tv's are the same"

I second this...seriously do not buy some cheap ass "sanyo" or similar....the picture quality is absoulte shit. I would rather have an SDTV than an offbrand HDTV.

I know , a couple of days ago I bought a 19" LCD monitor (3rd computer in my office) for $100 at a big computer store. This thing is total shit. My 4 year old 17" viewsonic is way better.

I dont want to make the same error on a TV for the house.

I buy most all the computer hardware for my company and typically buy Dell LCDs for $300'ish. My boss bought a Gateway LCD for like $150 and was so proud of himself. That thing has been the biggest pile of shit I've ever seen. It's been passed around 3-4 people already. Nobody wants it.

Fuck I really think I'm going to have to give it to my 6 year old

Just be honest with yourself about how the tv will be used. I wanted to stay under $1,000 for a tv too; then I remembered I was still using a 19" tv from 1986. If I'm going to keep a tv that long it makes sense to pay a little more. I ended up dropping $1,200 or so. Considering how much a tv gets a used it was worth it. Don't scrimp on living room tv's and mattresses.

DT

TV's from 1986 lasted a long time. I still have one from 87 in my storage room.
The shit today that we get from China aint gonna last as long.
whatever I get I'm not going to expect much from it.
The TV it is replacing is only 3 years old.
