Good evening Ladies & Bruce?s.
I would like to pose a question regarding certain words that was not a part of my English education. And since English is not my first language, and it has such a dominant place in the world today, I'm always eager to widen my horizon.
First of all, during my travels in the EF world I have noticed that you have a tendency to call each other bro (the male members at least). I understand this to be a friendly term directed to those you share some common ground with, like in this instance, BB, fitness and a healthy living. I also assume that broly is an extension of this!? But sometimes you also call your fellow elite members, bor and orb. What's with that? Is this a slightly different term, meaning the same thing as bro?
I'm also curious on what you mean when you call someone a TOOL? Am I right when I perceive this as a negative term, and when someone is calling you a TOOL, they are far from impressed with you at that moment.
Is the term TOOL related to the screwdriver, which is of course an instrument used to screw things with? And also since American slang dictates that when you're screwed, or have been screwed over, you are not having a pleasant day. Unless of course you are referring to having sexual intercourse, which if I?m not quite mistaken, is rather pleasant. But since there are a "helluva" lot more Americans, than ringperm people, I guess you already knew that
When we're at the subject of sex, and its use in the English language, why do you also, in most cases, use the word "fuck" as a negative term?
Somewhere I have this .wav file that explains the use of this word in the English language? It was most enlightening, and entertaining. But it failed to explain why this is so.
So if any of you out there have any information you might want to share with me, regarding this. That would be most appreciated.
Since I know that the karma thing is a valid commodity on this board, I would gladly share what I have, to those generous souls that will help me expand my knowledge of the English language.
Thank you for your attention, this has been fun, and may the holy hand grenade protect you on your journeys
Regards,
Ringperm
PS: I apologize for any misspelled words and grammatical errors in this post
