b fold the truth

Elite Strongman

Can't say he was the nicest person in the world...and he didn't flare a big smile for the pic...but ohhh well...

Well, if you know him better you would know that he does not have much to smile about these days. On occasion he will smile but it is rare. I am not at liberty to speak about his personal business but take my word for it... there is not a lot to smile about.

He was great all day. This photo was taken directly after the contest had finished....and his smile quickly left...lol.

He was a very large dude for sure...but size doesn't mean a lot in strongman. I saw a guy who weighed 275 do a partial deadlift from 15" with 970...like candy...

sheeeesh bfold that guy is a huge mofo...

his arms look bigger than greg valentino :p

Hmmm. I met him twice in the 80's, and he was very polite, and answered every stupid question the crowd put to him after he was done competing.

Sorry to hear that things are not going well for him, if that is the case.

Does Kaz still do any strength competitions? From the picture he appears as strong as ever. He also looks impressive in those MetRx commercials. I love watching the Worlds Strongest Man events in which he competed. He totally blew away his competitors. Why did he stop? I heard he had problems with the guys who ran the event.

that guys a giant.

you aren't exactly small, either. the comparison between you two is probably similar to what I would like look standing next to you :)

Billy Kazmier is the man!! Man he's freakin thick! B fold that's awesome! Was he at your hometown or somethin? That's bad!

barnes3 I guess it would suck to be a sports "personality".

When you have a personal or career problem everyone says "oh he's a dick" "he is so rude" "He wouldnt talk to me" with out even considering this is a real human being who has more to worry about in their life.

I don't think that was the case...he was paid to be there too. He was representing Met-Rx as well as being the commentator. I was supposed to have performed with him the night before at a Church but could not make it...but I don't think that he KNEW that I was supposed to be there anyway...lol

The Pro Nationals is going on right now in STL. I went to the prelims on Thursday and the finals are on Saturday. My family just left to watch it...but I can't go. :(

People can say that Kaz was awesome...and I will agree 100%. He would not even make it to the top 10 in the US right now...not even the old Kaz. He might not make it in the top 25. Back in his day they invited who they wanted to compete depending on who they liked...not who was the best. They didn't invite the best there...

I'm not going to pretend that I know shit about strongman competitions.....I don't. But one thing I hear said quite often is that todays competitions aren't always won by the strongest as alot of the events require stamina (I believe Jamie Reeves made this point once). Is that why you say Kaz wouldn't make it into todays top 10? Or maybe todays competitors have a different approach to training (more events training?). If so, it begs the question of what would Kaz do in todays competitions if he trained using the methods of more recent competitors?

I think Kaz held the 3 powerlifts total record at one time. So he was plenty strong in his prime. He must be older then dirt now, cause he used to compete 20 years ago. What is he, 50?

He is over 50. And yes had the total record in the superheavies way back in the day.

B-fold, what makes you say that Kaz could not hang with the current crop of strongman? I am surprised to hear you say that. I am not being smart about this at all. You certainly know a lot more about it than I do, but I was wondering why somebody who benched over 600, squatted over 900, and pulled over 800 all raw, could not keep up with todays strongman?

Is it an endurance factor? I would not be surprised if that is what it is, as the medley's and loading events seem to be dominating modern strongman, along with race events.

Anxiously awaiting your insight.

Powerlifting has very little to do (nearly none at all) with who will win at a contest. He might do well at the squat and deadlift...but everything else would be tough to beat.

In 1997 the heaviest atlas stone used was a 297...today they are throwing the 385 around and even the 420...

I think that Kaz did the log press for a single with like 335 or something. Maybe not that much, will have to check my video archive. Today they use 300-325 for max reps (many get 8-15 reps with this weight).

They also have to move a lot...which he did not do well with even in his prime. Today, you have to be good at EVERY event to win. Phister's weaknesses are the squat, deadlift, overhead press...but anything that allows him to move he dominates because he is so adgile.

Chad Smith weighs at least 350 at 6'3" recently set the super yoke world record as he went 100' with an 800 pound super yoke on his back in 12 seconds flat. He also did 12 reps with the 300 pound 2 3/8" thick axle on Thursday...then partial pulled close to 900.

I saw a guy at a contest a month or more compete who was a powerlifter. He was 210 and had benched 510 in a meet. I don't think he got 200 pounds on a log press... I saw another who log pressed 300 but took dead last on every single event from there on.

Willie Williams did a strongman contest a couple years back and after he flipped the tire for 3 reps..he just fell over the tire and lit up a cigarette...and quit.

Strongman is like taking an ENTIRE football team and trying to decide who is the best player. You make every player play every position and you score them on each. At the end of the day you have the best all around football player.

Thank you. As I expected, there is a lot more there than an outsider realizes. That was an exceptional answer.

B-fold, you are an asset to the board.

As long as he's doing infomercials for Q-ray, you've got it on him, B. :lmao:

Ummmm...ok....

You know Q-ray? The magnetic bracelet? There's an infomercial in which he tries to put up a bench, acts like it's the toughest thing he's ever done, he slides on the incredble Q-ray bracelet....and wouldn't you know it? That same bench goes up with almost no effort.

It's a truly amazing product. ;)

Haha...:lmao:

I rarely ever watch tv unless it is to review my workouts on tape or watch UK play basketball...

No, he does not do any competions anymore, as far as actually competing. If he is in a competition he is the featured guest. He is working out daily as a way to keep his sponsors paying him... He gets sponsored from Nutrional Products to Bodybuilding Equipment. He ever gets equipment for free is the company can use his name/image to promote the product. I can not even tell you how much extra equipment he has laying around in the back part of the gym along with the storage unit he has.

If you would like to take a peek at his gym look here:

Who knows... you might be even able to depict me from some of the pictures?? :)

I haven't worked out there in about 4 months, and changed gyms for personal conflicts with some of the f'cking idiots there. I felt that if I stayed I would end up hurting someone really bad and get sued for it because that was the type of people that I had conflicts with. Since then, I have talked to Kaz and he said that they are no longer there. So, once my contract with my current gym ends I will back there. Best Gym I have ever been a member at.... Makes me sad thinking I am not there...:(

But I will be soon...
:)
