I`m considering doing this... Baiting a thief.

First of all is it legal? I was robbed (my shed) a month ago and I think they came back for more. The doorknob looks like it was tampered with. If I keep the door ajar for a few days while I keep an eye on it for someone to take the bait, you think it will work?

I would have to monitor it 24/7 or have an alarm on it of some kind. I`m always home and could possibly do it. The satisfaction of catching the guys thief be great.

The way they did it last time was they closed the door behind them and collected EVERYTHING from the toolboxes etc. they took their time doing it. I would have them cornered in the shed with the door closed if they went in. THEN ALL HELL WOULD BREAK LOOSE!!!

As of now on a scale from 1-10 I`m at 5 on wanting to do this. Any ideas? No eloborate shit... I`m seriously thinking of a simple plan to do it. IF they have the balls to come back, then it`s worth getting them.

what you described isnt illegal, but entrapment is...

i think entrapment exampels are like kidnapping someones kid for them to rob a bank, and then arresting them (if the cop kidnapped the kid and told them to rob the bank so they could further their career witha big bust)

gone...definitely kids...going into a shed? was anything of REAL value?...chances are of them coming back are slim...especially if they took their time the first time- they are done with your place....if you left the place unlocked, you take an element out of the crime....not locked- becomes simple theft...locked and forcing entry becomes burglary....get more info about whats been happening in your hood, and maybe you could see some pattern and then act....sometimes these guys will find a good area and stick around until its all gone.....

Monitoring 24/7 woudl be tough and a lot of work for possibly nothing. Mebbe rig up a camera to watch the door. Or a booby trap that covers em in permanent ink.......preferably a really girlie colour. Ah sod the law.........rent Home Alone and make notes.

If you have that kind of time it might be worth it but I highly doubt they would come back. Also I agree w/ jerkbox, def. have some kind of weapon and a phone to call the police.

Just get some of those motion sensors and have them feed into the house so you'll hear it but no one else will.

I say do it...even if it's not "breaking and entering," you'll probably get enough evidence to get them for the first time. But I doubt they'll come back, sounds like they pretty much cleaned you out the first time...although the criminal always returns to the scene of the accident.

a family I know used similiar tactics to catch a theif...they rigged a security camera...you should do that and play gone for a few days...definetly punk teens...

a second or third robbery is common. first they steal the old crap, then come back and get the new stuff you bought with the insurance money

if possible a motion activated camera would be great just to catch them in the act, but if thats too complicated, something like a bear trap would be nice

Just beat their asses. Then tell the cops, if they do show up that you caught them breaking into your shed and confronted them and they attacked you. You can claim self defense.

if you beat them up have fun getting sued, because that's what'll happen

if you do it find some way to lock them in from the outside and call the police

good idea.

or molest them and give them your wifes crabbies

They stole $3000 worth of power tools and stuff last time. If I catch them they WILL DEFINATELY hit me first and I`ll have to fight them. *wink* What if I had a lock outside and just bolted the door without knowing they were inside *wink angain* Then I would`nt come back to the shed for a few days to open it. lol

Nah. Seriously If I had the time I might do something with an alarm connected to my house alarm that chimes whenever the shed door opens.

a lock will only keep honest people honest.

why not try something like this.....hook up a massive electrical charge to the door knob on the shed, and if there are windows, line them with metal in such a way that the metal HAS To be touched in order to open them....even if they are broken. then post a sign on the door and by both windows that says "DANGER! HIGH VOLTAGE!" and has all the warnings "paralysis and death" blah blah blah. set the voltage and current high enough that it won't kill, but definetly knock someone out and make them piss and shit themselves. have the on/off switch located somewhere in your house.

also, post up private property no trespassing signs and check your local ordinances on them. i believe here the owner of the property HAS to sign the sign in order for it to be 100% legal. then they are trespassing according and can be prosecuted for more than just burglary and larceny if they happen to get caught.

remember, set the system to "sterilize" not "kill." make them impotent with the shock. if the same theives come back, then they shouldn't be reproducing. they'd be a bad example as a parent.

if you had some dough to spend you could have your alarm company come by an ad a sensor on the door to the shed probably $75-100 if you already have an alarm system, I am assuming you would, anyway

then you can set a trap and have a chime programmed for the shed door...anytime 24/7 you would be ready... otherwise they will wait for you to sleep and hit you again

You can`t really shock someone like that.

I was thinking of the loudest alarm you can possibly put in there. I have a huge ceiling space that would fit those Fire department alarms. I SWEAR if they were selling it and it was feasible, I would stick one of those in there and wake up the neighborhood when it`s broken into. If you stayed in there for more than a few seconds while it was sounding you would go deaf.

Have you ever heard one of those up close? lol

I would`nt even know what runs those things. I have electricity back there though. Could you imagine the whole freaking neighborhood waking up at 1 or 2 AM because of some dude breaking in. lol

That`s what I have now on my front door, back door and basement door. The door opens and it chimes for 2 seconds at every keypad. There`s also an "at home" feature for at night if the doors open while you`re sleeping the alarm will sound and the police dispatched. Only the doors but not the motion sensors so one can walk around in their house at night but still be "secure" from people breaking in any of the doors.

I ran all the alarm wiring in the house and actually did all the electrical wiring as well. lol I could easily run another door contact out to the shed door.

1) It's not entrapment.
2) If you are from my home state of SC, you can shoot them dead and not be prosecuted according to the soon to be senator current Attorney General
3) If yuo are in TX you can also shoot them dead.

Lock and load!

stealing power tools? definately sounds like a minority trying to start a construction company.

even if you hit them first, you could probably get away with it

technically, YOU wouldn't be the one doing it. they would be doing it to themselves by disregarding all the warning signs. kinda like the sign at the zoo that tells you not to feed the bears or the tigers or lions or hyenas and not to climb the wall to get into their cages. every now and then you've got some idiot that does, but how many other people have walked past that same cage before, saw the sign and said "hmmm, mongo think this bad idea" and passed up the offer to become a darwin award recipient? plenty. we've become a country littered with warning signs because people can NOT think for themselves. "don't touch chain while chainsaw is in operation." well no fucking shit. but they had to put that there because some dumb fuck did it. if there's not a warning sign or a warning label on something, chances are 1 in every 4 americans is going to do it. put a warning sign up and i'm sure that number drops to 1 or 2 in 1000, and those 1 or 2 are absolutely nothing except pollution in the gene pool.

so go ahead, wire it up. put up warning signs. you can argue it in court that you took the necessary precautions to warn INTRUDERS as to the dangers they were facing and the risk they were putting themselves at. plus then you could prove they had the intent of committing a crime and you did the police a favor by rendering them unconscious so they could be apprehended. then you'll know where they live by the police report, so you can go hunt them down when they leave the hospital and beat them to a bloody pulp.
