I was stranded on the side of the road last night. It was below 0 out. My lug wrench did not fit my wheel key, so i could not get enough torque to remove the wheel. (last time i got new tires, apparently my lugs changed)

Police drove by several times and did not offer to help, or call for help.

In my personal experience, cops are always around to harass me or give me petty speeding tickets. They have never been around when I needed one.

Does that mean all cops are bad? of course not. I assume the percentages are about the same in any profession. The problem is, though, that the profession we are talking about is one in which there is more trust and responsibility vested than most. They should be held to higher standards, imho.

Whats a stereotype? are you saying cops are trustworthy or considerate? i disagree strongly on that. When cops aren't acting out their roles as cops they are ok people, but when they are in 'cop mode' its their job to control the situation. As a result, they come across as inconsiderate, paranoid & abusive. Thats the reality of it, and no 'we protect society' half ass justification can change that fact.

By the way, thats what we do, or attempt to do, is to control situations. Sorry if some officers dont come across as the nicest people but we are not all bad or all assholes. I deal with the worst of the worst on a daily basis because I work in the jail most of the time. I deal with murderers, rapist, child molesters, thieves, you name it. And other than a few inmates that have given me problems I guarantee you that the majority of the inmates will tell you that I am a stand up guy and one of the most fair/nicest people they have encountered. So we are not all assholes.

not a one my man. I have been pulled over 3 times, and interrogated/detained once. That is it. When i was pulled over the cops weren't abusive or paranoid, so i am ok with them and harbor no ill feelings

hoooooooowever, no one knows if your fairness is sincere or an attempt at manipulation. Or if your niceness is just a tool to win trust so you can use it against someone later on. When you have to do things like that to do your job, you will naturally incur resentment.

And for the record I like cops, think they have a tough job. Can't let a few tickets over the years change that. Even though one cop was a jerk, read that he got fired a couple years later cosmic karma.

I figure that's one ticket for every 1000+ times I've been speeding or done some other dumb ass move.

Cops are people. 50% of all people are assholes, 50% of all cops are assholes... don't matter... some a good, some are bad... flip a coin. It just makes it worse when it is an asshole on a power trip.
