Acctually it is what kills you. Usually breaks your neck on impact, if you live through that, then you should be safe IMO.

SAFE???!!! I DOUBT IT....IF BY SOME MIRACLE YOU DO SURVIVE THE INTITIAL IMPACT OF HITTING THE WINDSHIELD, AND BREAKING YOUR NECK, YOU'LL PROBABLY BE TRAVELING AT ENOUGH FORCE THAT YOU WILL DIE IF YOU HIT ANYTHING. HOWEVER, YOU ARE CORRECT THOUGH, THE WINDSHIELD USUALLY DOES YOU IN.

i thought all windshields sold in the us are easily shatter-proof upon impact? Your bare fist could probably break one with a good punch. Designed for precisely that exact reason.

YOU CAN BREAK ONE FROM THE INSIDE WITH A "GOOD PUNCH". I KNOW THIS CUZ I HAVE DONE IT A FEW TIMES. HOWEVER, IN A CRASH, THE IMPACT USUALLY BREAKS YOUR NECK. I'LL LOOK FOR A LINK THAT I WAS READING A WHILE BACK ABOUT STATISITICS ON AUTO ACCIDENTS. I THINK IT HAD SOMETHING ABOUT THIS IN IT.

Whenever I buy a new car, the first thing I do before driving it off the lot is punch out the windshield with my bare fist.

I was on my way back to high school when I saw a huge back plumn of smoke at the top of the hill. What I came apon I can never forget. First there was what I assume was a body that had slid on its face for maybe 50 yards leaving an arrow trail of blood and teeth followed another maybe 50 yards was a mass of burning Harley. Must have been the first to come upon the scene. Initially I drove by in disbelief, but woke up and slowed to go back. By this time a half dozen others had stopped so I continued to school.

Id agree about just getting off a hiway when in fog. Going too slow is asking for a serious rear ending which I believe is how many fog pile-ups start.
