I've been cleaning house and I found my daughter's little stick horse that I bought her when she was 4. I remember how excited she was, how innocent and how happy she was back then. Now, she wants to get on anti-depressants and it breaks my fucking heart. She's been watching disney movies lately, I think to regress back to her youth when she was a very happy little girl. :( :(

is she depressed? kids dont really know whats best for them. there is all this hype nowadays on the news and media about anti-depressants. thats where kids get their ideas. maye she just needs someone to talk to (therapist)

Hopefully it's just hormones messing with her head.

Therapy is probably a great idea for any kid her age.

SHe went to one session and hated it. Some therapists suck. I'm making her an appointment with my psych doctor. Some of the problems she has are a result of having divorced parents and living with a f'ed up step dad. The other part is just genetic. She thinks so much like me and I don't tell her what I think. Just runs in part of the family.

things usually work themselves out, sounds like emotions are very high over there. you guys need a break, do something together to take your mind off of those things.

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. A good doc won't just give her meds. First she has that whole teenage hormone girl thing working against her. Secondly she has her other problems and the genetic one of being an over thinker.

I am the same way, and my son was given that same genetic curse. The pills only mask the problem and never allow them the opportunity to actually learn how to deal/cope with it. Find a good doctor, there are some out there.

Don't just jump on the pill route, she can learn to cope with her problems with out the pills. And in the end she'll be better off with out them

dont force her to go to a therapist unless she wants to but give her the option...i personally know i could never open up to a therapist, or feel comfortable.

check ur pm box biteme

Meds & therapy can be a good combination, but, IMO, docs are too eager to throw kids on meds. Kids start thinking meds are good, 'cause everyone's on them.
Better if she can just find someone, not necessarily a therapist to talk to. Older cousin, gf, minister, teacher. Many times, just talking to a nonjudgemental person can help.
Good luck.

Congrats on the new baby with Katie Holmes bro.

What?

Smurfy - I bet a choice theory counselor would do her wonders at such a young age. Maybe you hould fly out there and help her out or point biteme to a licensed practitioner in her area.

I agree that doctors are too quick to throw EVERYONE (kids and adults) on meds. But I'll never be able to say that they're not for anyone. I just think therapy is key in any treatment of mental health but meds can help if things get to a certain point. I've been on and off for them for a long time.

I'm currently on them for the first time where I'm giving things 100% effort in terms of med and professional help. A lot of the time I swear it seems like I'm still moving backwards but at least I function now that I'm back on meds instead of being crippled with panic attacks to the point that I worried I'd lose my job.

LOL you're full of all kinds of insight this evening.

full of truth when good people are on the line

Bitme is the dad he does not need to send his child (she is a kid damn it!) to a stranger for help or dope her up on mood drugs

if you dont have family then Therapy could be an option of you do then depend on your family

its called "family" for a reason

The plus about a therapist though is that they're totally outside of the situation and don't have their own bias put into a situation. I've always been incredibly close to my parents but a lot of the issues I had growing up I couldn't have dicussed with them because they were either involved or I knew they'd freak out (out of love for me).

sorry but what you stated is an opinion, not NECESSARILY the truth.

to each his own. i just hope no one in your family ever needs professional help, cuz it seems they'll never get it.

thats bullshit too

family is all you need if you have them
In truth, family rarely helps. Too close to the situation.
Sometimes, she just needs someone to listen, so she can realize, she's not unique, everyone goes through this.

there is a speration between people clearly

and anyone I know would never seek an outsider for "help"

the thought disgusts me
but this is just me

how chemicals and a doc can cure something from within I will never know
