PICK3 said:My mom studys under Rickson Gracie ... she'd kick your ass.
Erzulie said:lol, bring it..
seriously i've trained and it was pretty much no holds bar... I could even bite if put in a situation i needed to get out of
I miss it![]()
I got my ass beat a few times by guys, never by the gals. But my sensi would put me in situations where i was up against someone at least 60lbs heaver and 3 belts advanced. But im stubborn, I never tapped out, never gave up... always would trickle my way out of it.
I haven't trained in a few years, was supposed to get back to it but with the BB and Figure thing going on, not much time... sad cause I have one belt left to get my black belt.
What kind of training have you taken?

Erzulie said:we studied with some gracie's .. they came down to our dojo and worked with us for a bit.
I know the Gracie's kick ass.. but have died out a bit in the octagon... Mixed is where its at right now.. you have to know how to stand up and fight, grapple.. all of it. You can't go in with one strong pt, you have to have diversity.
JavaGuru said:I wrestled for six years in Jr High and High School, also did Summer Greco Roman leagues to work on my throws and take downs; I've always been a ground fighter...I like taking it to the mat.My coach always made me wrestle up against the heavyweights, to make me rely more on technique and less on my natural strength, as a Freshman I wrestled 165 but I was always practicing against 200+ pounders. Heavyweights at that level are generally slugs and I wiped the mat with them. Wrestling has to be the most physically demanding sport I've ever participated in; I got my first wakeup call my Freshman year when I had to wrestle in a 30 team tourney, I wrestled six times in one day, I had to drag my ass off the mat. After taht conditioning became a major priority, I would skip rope for an hour straight, countless push ups, sit ups and body squats.
I actually started practicing strikes when I was in high school, it was mostly for football, played linebacker; I had a 100 lb training bag. I can throw a forearm that can remove your head.
In college I took Chinese Wrestling which is primary based on locks and throws but striking is also incorporated. The instructor was a three time Chinese national champion. Some links....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shuai_Chiao
http://www.combatwrestling.com/chinesewrestling.html
"Shuai-Chiao, a sublime combination of all fighting techniques, is a super science of mechanics. It carries out time, speed, force and angle to its highest gear, applying free use of blow kicks, catches, and locks by the conveyance of throwing.
For modern-day exercise convince, current practitioners lower the killing levels and separated a complete Kung fu into Judo, Aikido, Fatal Point Striking and Karate. Actually, all of the above four summed up make basic parcel of Shuai-Chiao.
As Shuai-Chiao comprehends techniques of both offensives and defensives, it focuses applications of all parts of human body in properly managing them to operates the strength by saving, borrowing, and returning the enemy's power so as to effectively beat down the rival.
From all of the techniques devised by earlier practitioners, came all of the latter day styles as in Hsing Yi, Pa Qua, Lo Han and Tai Chi Chen. Shuai-Chiao was the most deadly form of martial arts ever devised."
I was surprised how good my technique remains, I was known for my perfectionism and being conservative (sometimes too). I've always been blessed with freakishly strong legs and I brought guys to tears with a torso scissor back in the day.
Erzulie said:DAMN nice..
I know the feeling with the coach.. My Sensi always matched me up with either the 200lb chick or the guys that out weighed me by at least 30 lbs.. I was a whopping 130lb max then. Stubborn little bitch though and he wanted to put me in my place.. which believe me, he tried plenty of times. I have more heart than skills, if that makes any sense... In the years my skills got better and he would again push me more... long story...![]()
I loved the discipline though and I loved being pushed to my max daily. I trained 5 days a week, and three of those days were double classes. And then I had to come home to my X (who also trained) making sure I had my guard up 24/7... I had to have eyes behind my head to even do the dishes or cook supper cause i never knew what to expect.
I loved it though, and I never underestimated my opponent.. which believe me i've seen alot do and then get tapped out within minutes.
Your training is great! the training I took was called American Shotokan, but in that description its seems like its the same. We went from Street Self defense to Jujitsu.. etc. Had a wide range of classes, some that were really intense to the pt that it was a mock rape defense. Screming yelling trying to remove your clothes and you had to defend against that. Three on one defense... but also the typical Forms and Techniques.. and sparring.
I loved it.
JavaGuru said:So living in your household was like the old "Pink panther" movies, always trying to surprise attack each other. I always sought out the best guys to practice against, it's the best and fastest way to learn. We had a guy who got third in State and another who took sixth. I wrestled these guys constantly as a Freshman. The coach encouraged it because they were smaller than me and had to work their technique like I did against teh bigger guys. I was always conservative, probably why I favored the mat over take down constests. I always felt more "in control" on the ground which is why i forced myself to do Summer greco-roman leagues.

pretty much so
Actually, My X challenged me earlier.. (my thread) said i'd lost it and he thought he could tap me out in seconds.. SO I took the challenge. Same thing, trickery, trying to be sneaky etc... I came close to getting him in a head lock but it didn't work. LOL, I sucker punched him in the gut thoughtee hee
I would also always train with people above my rank, more experience, stronger, hit harder etc cause otherwise I couldn't get better.... and that whole only give 60% bullshit sucked.. I would tell them to give me what they felt i gave them. If that meant knocking the shit out of me.. then so be it. No other way to learn until you get knocked the fuck out![]()
I also was trusted to help train some of the lower rank, I knew how to hold back when needed.. talk them thru techniques, and was pretty good at not jsut going off. (go figure.. hee hee) I knew where I came from, where I started and When I was that new to the art fighting a brown belt was intimidating.. so I was always really helpful and would instruct them the entire time.. BUT, if they left their self open I'd take the shot and tell them.. YOU LEFT THIS WIDE ASS OPEN FOR ME.
So you feel more comfortable in the guard or the mount?
Im a guard person.. i have good lower body, leg strength and better control esp when its against someone stronger. I don't even fight for hte mount if they out weight me because I don't want to expend to much energy.. I just jump on them and pull them atop me and lock them up. My nerves in my inner quads are mostly dead now.. LOL so its hard to break my guard. And then I have a few submissions i work on from there.

JavaGuru said:I'm comfortable in both; I either go for a choke/lock or try to get a position where I can throw a forearm(mount). I seem to have very good "natural" feel for body awareness, mechanics, and leverage, which I think is amplified on the ground. I also like to stay as close as possible to my opponents body whether in the guard or mount. I have the same attitude about giving your all. It's one thing to go half speed on strikes...I know I wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of one of my forearms. However, locks and chokes are a different matter. I've been blessed or cursed with a fairly high pain tolerance and can take quite a bit of punishment.
Erzulie said:I guess i tend to go for the guard when im going up against a male due to the fact that I know most I can't out power them. Most don't expect me to just jump on them and use my leverage and pull them atop me and hold them there.
I am also more comfortable being very close to my opponent. the less distance the better for me. I have a few submissions that i worked alot on from the guard position and im very comfortable with them. There are a few guys i'd grapple that I felt comfortable going for the mount and did it.. and then shortly there after got the arm bar quickly, but i never underestimate my opponent. I know my weaknesses really good.
I think my strongest strike is a ridge hand to the neck. I also was trained that there is no such thing as a 'dirty' fight. If your opponent out weights you, is stornger than you etc, why the hell would you stand up and fight fist to fist with him? Crazy! Do what you have to do to end the fight as fast as you can with as little bruises and cuts that you can.. I know.. dirty eh? LOL
But in a street fight, who cares about the loser? You walk away, then you are doing good.
![]()
My pain tolerance is pretty high too.. and like you sometimes i feel its a curse to me. I basically have to be near passed out before I tap, (i've never had to tap) I finised my brown belt test with a broken wrist cause I was to damn stubborn to stop. But it works against me to cause I've blew out a knee already, and ended up having a damn black belt i had in the guard pick me up three times and slam me into the mat to get me to break. Not good on the O'l skull.. and one hell of a headache the next day

I was dating a woman and one of her 17 year old sons was over, he's a decent sized kid and been training in MMA. Well, one day he jumps me from behind and throws a choke....I jam my chin and instantly shoulder toss him but not a normal one. I actually drove him to the ground with my entire body and lead with my shoulder. He lay motionsless for a couple seconds then started groaning. I felt bad but it was "instinctive", needless to say he never jumped me again.![]()
I was like yo D wtf were you thinking? LOL. Did you think I'd not react? It's written that one Ancient Pankration Olympic champion won every match by breaking all teh fingers of his opponents. I've hyper extended my fingers and thumbs numerous times.awittyusername said:I know grappling is dangerous.

Other than that, only My X ever snuck up on me daily.. all the damn time. But I actually believe it helped me alot. I'm alot more aware of everyone around me and my reaction time is alot better.
