I just built my own calf block

I got 2 8' 2x4s and 12 wood screws at Home Depot; $7.85.

Had the 2x4s cut into 3 32" pieces each.

Screwed 2 of the 2x4s together on top of each other (effectively creating one 32" 4x4--they wouldn't cut 4x4s and besides this was cheaper)

Then centered 2 of the pieces at the ends of the "4x4" and screwed them in. Imagine a big "H". The part you put your toes on (the "4x4") is approximately 5" off the ground (2x4s are actually about 1 3/4" thick). I have 2 32" pieces of 2x4 left over.

I plan on using this with the smith machine and perhaps with the leg curl machine (from behind).

Looks great. The people at my work are going to look at me funny when I walk in with this tomorrow morning!

Is it similar to mine? I love mine...

2x4's...such wonderful things. you can make anything out of them. I once made a trebuchet that would throw a grapefruit 150 yards out of less than $100 of 2x4's.:D

A little off topic, but the post brought back memories.

Right on dude. You can get some of that sandpapery grip tape for better footing and to keep the edge of the wood from splintering off.

I haven't seen yours...post a pic. I got the inspiration to get one from a calf block in my other gym, but then used the design from one I saw Arnold using in a pic.

The one in my other gym is made from a 4x4 on a piece of plywood but my design is just as good and cheaper.

My design is exactly like yours. I think the pieces are longer (or maybe you 're just bigger :)).

Also great idea on the seted calf raises!!!! I gotta try that (I am currently using the leg curl machine for seated calf raises).
