I have to put my father into a nursing home today.

Hang in there, this stuff is never easy to deal with, but you have to do what's best for him, even if that means making him mad. Best you can do is visit him often. Most nursing homes will let the patients have some familiar things around them. Bring him some pictures of loved ones and maybe an old comfy blanket. When hubby's grandmother was put in a home and couldn't do a thing for herself, the one thing that would make her smile was us turning the pages in old photo albums and talking about the people in the pictures. Best wishes.

Yeah, I feel for you and your dad. My dad has Parkinson's and it's only a matter of time before he will not be able to take care of himself and I don't think my mother will be capable of taking care of him as the disease progresses. It really sux, but it's life.

My Mom and her husband is going thru something similar.
He's in a rehabilitation hospital. But I don't see him getting much better.
My Mom couldn't do what needed to be done for him.

One thing I can offer you is; go and see him very often. I worked at a nursing home and the thing that sadden me the most is the loneliness of the people in there.

I feel for you man, its not an easy situation to deal with. Had you talked about this with him beforehand at all? It can be good to talk to parents years in advance, not neccsarily because they will remember and it will help them, but it will give you more peace of mind in knowing that if they were all there they would totally support what you are doing.

So you know Pam. How depressing it is to see people in that condition. I've been to more than a few of them. Really sad. I hope there's a rainbow at the end of that dark tunnel.

I pray that there is..

For anyone who has to go thru such a thing I hope at the end of their journey
they have what is promised in the bible.

There is. I don't feel like being laughed at by other's because I'm ignorantly superstitious, but I know what I know if you know what I mean. :)
