benefits are just that - benefits

the sole purpose, is still serving. and if u get asked to deploy and run around in a shitty hot desert waiting to be blown up by an IED, benefits mean squat. and no one will care if ur still stuck on 'whats in this for me?'

albeit those who join now, in a wartime, are usually of the 'serving' mindset - but during peacetime, shitloads of people who enlist desiring 'benefits', join, and which is why we get so many shitty ass soldier-wannabees during peacetime, who scoff at having to possibly fight and die when a war is announced.

um, im not doing this for 'whats in it for me'. i want the training and to fight and save some american lives, thats all. i just mentioned the benefits because i just got married and i want to make sure my wife an daughter will be well taken care of while im gone or if im not coming back.

how about you lobby to help stop the war

then pay for the training courses yourself

just a thought :)

look under security training courses in the phonebook. youd be surprised. i hold a cert 2 in security operations (dont ask) and one of the options was to go the terrorism path. it usually means getting into the feds for the good stuff but still, the lead up is course based. beats going to war.

funnily enough i was toying with the idea of the greek army a few months ago, just so i could learn to kill people with guns instead of just drugs lol

yeah supposedly theyre quite good (surprisingly, cos theyre so badly funded, relatively) ...dunno if its an urban legend but during training youre deliberately killed then resuscitated. how about FUCK YOU ima doin it in australia lol

I say if that what you want, go for it. Did two tour's in theater in the giant sand box, and loved every min i spent in the Marines. And now that i am out, I truly miss it. But it takes a certain type of person to be a Marine, and if you go in half ass, you are going to hate it, it is not for everyone. Good luck

This is one thing I find strange. Why is it that generally the people who served feel like the experience was worth it and those from their couches seem to feel otherwise. Oh nevermind they will have all kinds of justifications for it.

You just got married, have a child, and you're considering a career that is going to keep you away from home most of the time?

1. If you want to save American lives STAY HOME. The less soldiers we have over there the fewer we'll have dying.
2. If you want to make sure they're taken care of STAY HOME. Chances are you make better than military pay already.
