I have hit rock bottom...

Im sorry if I come off as whining or something, but Im really depressed as of now. My lifting is going absolutely no where. I find I can't even finish workouts now, and I leave the gym in pure disgust of how things are going. I have lost an obsene amount of strength and it is killing me. Weights that used to feel light, are kicking my ass now. Im not sure where I went wrong. I did the 5x5 for a while, then found myself hitting a plateau, since then I have been in the biggest slump that I can recall. Like most of you, lifting/exercise is my life and the fact that it is going horribly is messing me up. Im going to throw the towel in for a week or so, and see if I feel better. I have no direction as of now ( in terms of a solid routine) and it feels as though Im starting out at day one every time I get into the gym. It's funny I always considered myself to have a good understanding of lifting and the body, but now Im getting my ass handed to me every time I go into the gym. If you guys/gals have any suggestions Im completely open to them, cause at the rate Im going Im in no position to criticize any advice from those who's training is still productive. Thanks, and sorry for the rant. :(

I think your idea is a good one - take some time off and come back later. Just enjoy living and come back to the weights in a little while. I dont know maybe try a 'less is more' approach the next time around. Good luck.

Perhaps I am interpreting this wrong Corn, but Im doing what I have always done, or atleast tried to find my way back to the days in which I was stronger, and Im not getting what I used to get. In fact Im not getting anything at all except frustrated and angered.

Have you considered a training partner? Someone who will "motivate" you or help you break through the barriers you are facing?

How is your diet? Energy level? Could it be something physiological?

Maybe a week off will do you good...time to re-evaluate your goals and re-vamp your program...

Sounds to me like you are in a training funk.

Believe me, this has happened to me several times. In the past, I thought about quitting and pursuing other activities.

Overall, you are burned out and possibly overtrained. The best thing to do is to take a two week layoff. In the meantime, spend some time participating in other forms of exercise. Let your skelatal system recuperate.

Once you are complete with this extensive rest, you will regain your enthusiasm and your strength will increase.

I wish you luck my friend. Remember, this whole funk stage is temporary and you will get over it. For now relax and stay away from the gym.

Good luck!!

I think it is overtraining as well Ingram, but I can't seem to break it. Oh I have considered a visit to the anabolic board Ingram, but I figure if this slump is messing me up as bad as it is, I couldnt imagine what I would go through when getting off a cycle.

Louden (would your name happen to be from the movie Vision Quest btw?) that is exactly how I feel. In fact just today, I was telling my friends that I am going to give up on lifting, and that maybe it isnt for me. Im normally such a positive person, but this is really bringing me down.

Thanks so much for the advice everyone, I knew that this would be the best place for me to explain my situation.

Taking a week off will do you a lot of good, I'm on my school's cross country team, and the week before counties, I like didn't run at all until the 2 days before it and i set a 1 minute PR

Like I told you yesterday in the gym, I think half you problem is mental. This chill out for a while. This summer I went through the same thing, I and felt like I wanted to cry when I got back from the gym because my lifts were so bad. I took a week off when I got back to school and changed my routine and my gains went through the roof again. Don't give up and try not to get discouraged. This has happened to me and I am sure that it has happened to almost everyone who has been training for a while. When you get back into the gym I will scream extra loud at you.

When my workouts start to suck and my strength is going nowhere, I often switch to lower reps so that I can keep adding weight to the bar, ie, instead of 5x5, I'll go with 5 sets of 3 instead. I can usually keep adding weight that way for a while and when I go back to what I was hitting for say sets of 5 before, it's much easier

Take 2 weeks off but stay active.

deifnietly overtraining IMO

you should measure your walking pulse every morning, and track the trends. If it goes up and stays up your overtrained

change up your routine. switch the days during the week, switch up your workout regimen, the order of the exercises in your routine, etc. last week, I was a lazy ass, and this week I am adding weight to my power clean. kick ass. also, could it be your diet? since you are in a funk, this is effecting you emtionally, and maybe your eating habits aren't what they should be?

Everyone gets in a slump...everyone.

Like the bros are saying, take some time off. Forget about the gym for a little while. Eat clean and sleep well. When you come back to the gym, dominate it.

Take some time off, but go play some Basketball or Racketball. Just dont mess with the supplements or weights. You'll fine yourself refreshed. Also depending on the Supp you could have started to build a tolerance, IE fat burners or energy boasters which could be why you feel like shit.

Something else it may be....when you bought an f-body, you got a firebird instead of a chevy. I'd be in a slump too:D
