I have a theory

You can alter genetics at an early age through specific training... ok follow me for a min.

When i was 15 i was on our powerlifting team
had no ass, no legs so on

well i would do legs 2 times a week and bench once
and that was about it for upper body
cause squat and deads were my bread and butter

well, now even if i do a light workout my legs grow like crazy, way out proportion my upperbody
hell i dont even have to train legs and i have 30 inch Quads

when i come off my legs dont shrink only my upperbody

i have a friend that is the complete opposite and in HS he only benched and did upper body

now i believe at an early age you can totally "train" your muscle fibers

ok gents i would like your opinions, thoughts ideas
so on, cause it just baffles me that because of my training when i was young my body is completely different now, and no matter how hard i try my upper body is always lagging..when in the begging they were proportionate

I would have to say I think there is truth to this. Makes me wish I had trained abs more back in high school:)

Makes sense to me. I wish I would have trained when I was younger instead of starting when I was 18... :(

yeah but now i am forever in contest with my upper body,
damn powerlifting coach said "bicept are for the ladies, and you men play football...NOW SQUAT"

hehe

Conan,it sounds like you just described me to a tee. When I first start lifting(mid-teens)I had pencil legs.By the time I was twenty I was squatting close to 700lbs,and my legs were like tree trunks.Ever since then my legs completely dwarf my upper-body,I can't even work them out without fear of getting"Platz syndrome"LOL...

hell bells i have bad genetics, i have workout when 15, 17, years old and gain nothing! i have some gain, i am 38 years old been working for 3 years now i am open for some help. :splat:

you are what they call and ectomorph "hard gainer"
some on that has trouble putting on any size at all

this post more or less refers to people that have ease growing either their upper body or lower body while struggling with the other half due to early age training emphasis

I've been a runner all my life until recently and my legs and calves respond very quickly to any sort of lifting - my upper body has been retardedly slow until very recently....
I definitely think that early training has something to do with it.

My legs my whole life have been tree trunks, have never really had any fat on them either. I find myself doing legs once a week and my legs are still growing, while my upper body hopelessly lags... My arms are nice, back is good, but my chest is totally lacking, same with abs. No matter how hard I push and try, my chest never seems to get bigger and fuller.

I'm going to keep on working at it, but I don't have much hope unless I start to pump in large amounts of juice into my chest.

I hate to pick apart your theory but the real issue is training legs. The longer you train a muscle, the denser the muscle fibers become. This prevents atrophy (at least relative to other muscle groups). So basically, you have dense muscle in your legs that don't atrophy as quickly. I am sure that your upper body will catch up in about 5 years. You are only in your twenties.

well we will see, if in 5 years i am not a MR olympia cause of my uppper body i am coming to kick your deca butt :)

thanks bro
and i am in my EARLY 20's ill have you know ;-)

I was thinking about this one while I was in the gym. My biceps and tris grow without me having to do much work on them.

We know that the more a kid runs about before the age of seven the more alveoli their lungs will contain throughout life.

Seeing as we stop growing at the age of 25(males). It would make sense that we could actually have more muscle cells in an area if we trained them in our younger years. Juice makes cells bigger, so the more cells you already have there, the more big things will get. I used to work my arms like crazy when I was a teenager. Just wish I had paid my chest as much attention!!!!

always knew this was true!

When I was young I always played "leg intensive" sports like soccer for 8 years. Now my legs grow two inches if I leg press 100lbs. Yet I work my biceps like a madman and I have a hell of a time making them do anything!
I am with George, why didn't I work my abs harder when I was younger? Hindsight is 20/20...
