I swear I think it's a plot....... that their appliances break down just after the 1 year warranty is up or that whatever broke isn't covered by the 5 or 10 year warranty......

Fridge died on Wed nite -- the nite B4 Thanksgiving......broken line to the heater that caused ice to back up in the freezer thus preventing the fridge from cooling.....

$134 later..... that just makes me mad....

didn't they just merge with somebody?

Another giant falls to Walmart and foreign compeition. Given KMart's bmodel (mainly real estate holdings and less focused on the retail), I got to feel sorry for the Sears legacy. I think the number is 33k employees in Chi-town alone? Wow, Chi-town's going to have a mass unemployment surge soon.

Falls? They didnt bankrupt, not even in any serious financial difficulty.

They have lost a lot of their share of the retail market though and made a really wise decision. I think I heard this merge will make the new company the 3rd largest retail chain in America.

If it was anyone else BUT KMart, then I would agree with you.

However, if you look at KMart, you'll see the problem. My understanding is that KMart's main business model now focuses on the real estate property that they own rather then the retail side of things. They've cut their buying staff from about 25 down to 2 for the country. They've closed DCs and further hampered the supply chain rather then focusing on the marketing / re-branding side of things. This makes me believe the comments about being real estate focused rather then retail focused. This is not to say that they don't turn a profit, but its not from their retail.

The fear is that Sears will soon follow suit.
