I hate pressing!

All types. They are so bad for me. Not only did they start off bad but they don't progress nearly as fast as my other lifts. I am probably the only person who can powerclean more than they can bench. My over head press has actully gotten worse. I don't think it is overtraining. I do ohp's and inclines on tuesday then bench and close grip on friday. The only press that is good for me is close grip. Lockout on press's are easy for me. Any ideas? Should I try westside for upperbody?

if you bench heavy then back off the presses, and vice versa,

they hit the same msuclegroups, except pecs off course, but triceps and delts get hammered.

I don't have pics or vids and it is not form. I think i figured out my problem. I don't do enough volume. I only do like 2 sets. I think I am going to try going back to something like 5x5 and see how thart works. Makes sense?
My upper routine.
tuesday
chins-whatever I am in the mood to do. Sometimes 3x3 or 2x5.
ohp-2x5
curls-2x3-5
incline-2x5

Friday
bench-upto 3 rep max or 3x3(usually ends up being 3,2,2)
close grip-3x5

Size is coming great fwiw.

vary the weights, sets/reps frequently

only go heavy every so often and you will find the strength going up without busting your balls

I don't feel overtrained. My tris are fine. I am not sure about delts. They have always been my weakest bodypart.
I am thinking of doing this. for ohp do 5x5 but after three weeks work up to three rep max. Incline 3x5. And for bench start off with 5x5 next week 5x3 then 3x3 then work up to 3 rep max. And I will lower all the weight and start over. Do you think this makes sense. Do you think it will be too much? My tris will be fine not sure about delts though.

well if you train an exercise 2-3 times a week, you'll get stronger on it faster, as long as you vary the weights over the session, one heavy, one light and fast and one medium perhaps etc

it would better to do bench heavier, then press light twice a week
and then next week reverse the roles. I think you will make faster progress like this.

ie

week 1
day 1 - Bench - 3x3 at 85-90%, press 5x5 at 70%
day 2 - bench - 5x3 at 55% , press 3x5 at 75%

Week 2
day 1 - Press - 3x3 at 85-90%, bench 5x5 at 70%
day 2 - Press - 5x3 at 55% , bench 3x5 at 75%

something like that at the top of my head, it may not work, but it looks ok on paper :)
But there is no periodisation there. I would unload every 3 weeks.

That might be too much for me. I will try my thing for a month then yours.

well adjust the volume to suit I was just showning a example.

have one 4 week block of higher volume and then another 4 weeks of lower volume to unload, works good

got news for ya dood-- its not the exercise-- its your attitude...if you really "hate" doing them-- even if you change to CCJs workout-- theyll still suck.

change your head-- the lifts will follow.

I hate them because I am weak at it. If I wasn't I would like it. I always look forward to it but afterwards get discouraged. I think the extra volume thing will make all the difference. It makes so much sense.

i was always told that there are certain lifts you do, not becuase you like them, or are good at them, but becuase they are good for you.

I power clean 10 pounds less than my bench

i wouldn't say I hate them, I am fairly strong on overhead movements. but bench is certainly my worst lift of the big 3....I think my form has had a lot to do with it, but also my choice in exercises and not knowing my weak points. I think westside has helped me identify some of those in the short 3 weeks i've been doing it. For one, the strength of the long head of the triceps, which I think is going to make a big difference in my bench once I improve it. And training bar speed as well as other things.

I hate my bench too...no doubt my weakest lift...but I'm determined to beat that damn bar even if it kills me!
