I Hate Oatmeal!!

My trainer wants me to stick to a very strict diet, and eat a cup of oatmeal everyday. I try, but it makes me GAG! The best I can do is cut up a banana, pour the oatmeal over it, and when the banana is gone, I toss the rest.. Does anyone have any ideas to make it taste better? Or an alternative to it.. What about just eating granola bars or something!! I need help!!!!

what kind are you buying...?

have you tried the Kashi stuff...?

i'm not a fan of plain old oatmeal either, but this stuff is bearable...

Try mixing two packets of splenda and 1 tbs of sugar free strawberry preserves.. Or try adding 2 tbs of sugar free maple syrup and some cinamon.

lacoste is right on, I usually eat it with a tad bit of splenda or you can try mixing it with 2 tablespoons of ANPB. Delicious. I can't eat the stuff plain either, it just taste horrible.

There are other options for healthy carbs if you really can't handle the taste. Ask him for an alternative.

Exactly. For awhile I hated oatmeal, so I would have mashed baked sweet potato mixed with egg whites and cinnamon.

Now I hate sweet potatoes, I'm back to eating oatmeal w/ blueberries, cinnamon and cooked with vanilla flavored soymilk. lol

This is what I do. I mix the oatmeal with hot water, but not to hot. Stir it up like the protien powder mixes, and then down it as if I were drinking a shake. You only taste it a couple of times depending how many gulps it takes to get it all down.

THis is my FAVE recipe for oatmeal:

1/2 c raw (rolled) oats...all natural
1/2 med. to small apple(peeled, cut into little pieces) ...mix in w. oatmeal
add cinnamon OR pumpkin spice OR apple pie spice to taste
add water...cook in microwave(Im sure the same thing can be done on the stove...microwave is faster)
then when its done...add splenda to taste..enjoy
You can also play around with fresh berries.....Good luck!

Apple pie spice!!! Now yer talking!! Great suggestions! Other than just not eating it.. I'll take all the help I can get!

the way i got adjusted to plain quaker oats was starting with the flavored instant packages (loads of sugar i know) that got me into oatmeal. after about a month i started eating the plain oats with splenda. now i can eat oats no problem. tastes like paper but it doesnt phase me anymore

i just mix in the chocolate peanut carmel flavored Designer protein after I'm done microwaving it, and eat it like that.

pretty darn good with a bit of skim milk. :)

Honestly, after awhile --- I just got used to the paper taste. My second meal of the day is a cup of oatmeal with a splash of skim milk.

For most, plain old oatmeal just doesn't cut it. It's just that making it my second meal of the day, I'm not really that hungry --- but I know I should eat.

Not real sure myself. Cept someone once told me that it's great carbs especially for weightloss..

well i figured that it was good clean carbs, but i get that else where so i was wondering if it had any other significant value besides that

Oatmeal is a clean, carb. Cleaner, fibrous carbs digest slowly and do not induce an overproduction of insulin. Hence, you get a steady even stream of this hormone, reaping the anabolic effects of it, while suppressing the fat storing side of it.

dude add protein to your oatmeal tastes great and you get protein!!!

Yeah, I add a scoop of whey protein to mine after it's microwaved and mix it around. Tastes like chocolate pudding. :chomp:

In addition to the slow digestion and stable blood-glucose levels, Oatmeal also has water-soluble fibers that can make you feel full over a longer period of time. :chomp:

Still can't eat it without cinnamon though ...

Splenda and cinnamon helps. You learn to eat a lot of stuff you don't in this game. After awhile it won't be as bad. Try some swallowing some flax oil and oatmeal will seem like a snickers bar. :)

Blend oatmeal with milk and whey protein. Morning protein shake, oats go down beautifully.

they actually make brown sugar substitute that you can use liberally on your oatmeal. its not easy to find in stores though.

I just take the oil and use it in salad dressing w. some sugar free/calorie free dressing....cant taste it at all
