I fucked up my back real bad tonight. HELP

I was doing squats in the garage and on my 5th rep, I felt my back give out on the way up. I don't know how I even got it racked. I immediately crumbled to the floor and struggled to get up for about 20 minutes. I can barely walk now and I feel that I might fall down at any time. Hurt it on the right lower side. I'm icing it and on the second round of aspiriin. I don't take anti-inflamm's because they're hard on the liver. I'm afraid I fucked it up pretty good. Wondering if I have a slipped disc.

dude, i don't think posting here is going to help. i think maybe a trip to the ER would help out if you're in agonizing pain. otherwise, doctor visit first thing in the AM.

I did something similar lifting shit at work one time...although I think your case is much more severe.

Rest healed it up for me.

No agonizing pain unless I move the wrong way or try to move too fast. I hate going to the doctor, but if I can't walk tomorrow, I guess I'm not gonna have much choice. Fuck, it's one injury after another these days. I may have to retire way too young.

I hurt it pretty bad doing a heavy leg press back in my mid twenties and I had to crawl on the floor for several days, but it eventually healed. This one seemed a little worse. I'm hoping for the best. If I had to be in traction in a hospital, I think I'd rather be dead.

how long ago did you do this?

5 p.m. All I can do is either lay down, or type on the computer. Laying down is too depressing, so here I am.

ummm, go to the doc now bor, I wouldnt wait until tomarrow

I stink and need to take a shower, but I don't think I could do it right now and if I go to the ER, They're just gonna leave me there and make me stay overnight, because I'm not dying. Fuck the hospital. I hate em. I'll just wait until tomorrow and if I'm in great pain, I'll go to a doctor.

I think I'm gonna watch, "Dumb and Dumber" and laugh the pain away.

Good Chiro bro. I`ve been there. good luck

Continue to ice the area... the entire lower portion of your back with the ususal 15 mins ice on / 15 mins ice off.

Try to sleep on your stomach tonight to take the pressure off your back (assuming you have a firm mattress).

Laying flat and help if you keep the legs slightly elevated.

I think AAP would agree with me when I say go test your deadlift max out in the garage right now. Now is the best time to make gains. Your body makes gains when it least expects that it's capable of making gains, so you really can't ask for a better opportunity than this.

Seriously though, you said what you need to do...rest it tonight and then see how it is tomorrow. Hope this isn't anything serious and you bounce back quickly.

Thanks. I've been icing about 30 minutes on, 30 off. I guess I should do it until I go to sleep.

I bet Biteme could pull 6 plates a side right now.

do a search for "fucked up back" on google, there are some good self diagnosis sites out there...you're laying around with nothing to do anyway...

I was squatting 430, what I use to could bench press before I ripped my pec. It feels a lot heavier resting on your back then on your chest for a brief second.

if i tried to squat 430 i'm pretty sure my spine would shoot straight out of my asshole covered in shit with several vital organs caught on the discs

lmao!!!! :lmao:

dude, what happened to you is my worst fear while squatting! you didn't notice ANYTHING wrong with your form on the way up??? :worried: god, that sounds fucking painful, if the aspirin stops working I'd shoot for whiskey instead.

I've been doing a little research. After this injury, my squatting days are over. It's time to adjust with the new research. I've always believed that squats were bad for you in the long run anyway, tonight's all I needed to confirm that. Way too much pressure on the spine and knees. The Bulgarians weightlifters only do stepups and squat lunges. One leg at a time, so as not to put all that pressure on the spine. This will be my new workout from now on when my freakin' back heals up.

WOAH, lets not over-react, stop squating? Now your delerious, bor.

Were you going for a one-rep max when this happened? How close is 430 to your limit? Squating is a great exercise, maybe you just pushed it too far...
