last squat max was 265x5 back in nov/december. keep in mind, when i started training in september i was doing (struggling, but doing) sets with 165lbs.

so today...

115 x 12
145 x 10
185 x 8
225 5x5

the first 3 sets with 225 were rough, the last 2 sets i was pumped big time. nailed them out, perfect form, and i go deep like everyone should. seems my first 3 worksets are always rough. after the 3rd set, i managed to pump myself up and nailed out the last 2 sets strong.

then i got ballsy....

315lbs........

unracked it, got my balance. didn't feel heavy at all. took a few tiny steps backwards, all set to go.....

took it down with complete control. i moved it maybe 2" back upwards and CRASH...onto the pins in the power rack. i had to sit down out of it.

walk around for a few minutes, get a few drinks of water. strech a little. got some help getting the bar back up into the hooks.

i refuse to fail.

so i do it again.

same results.

i decided that this was a battle that was going to have to be waged another day. i'm ready for it. that bitch is mine. i'm worn the hell out now, and i can feel today's PR attempt in my legs. i've got 315, it will be my bitch. i will nail it within 2 weeks. next time, no 5x5 sets before, just warm ups.

mad as hell now. ok, time to eat.

You will get it next time no doubt!!

You could use an old school trick and have someone punch you in the face right before you squat..... you use the adrenalin rush for power.

lol, youll get it man!!!

but yeah, failing sucks, i hate that feeling when it hits the pins... and your like oh shit and embarrased and mad at the weight fo rmaking you look stupid...so next time you kick its ass

bigdho - nice idea, but wouldn't work for me. i'd drop the bar immediately and kill the person. leg day is a "bad" day.....i go in the gym and i turn into a very evil person. it's a good day for me, and it'll be a bad day if someone ever gets in my way.

sublimezm - yeah, it sucked big time. when i was fully down, the bar was about 2" above the pins, so i had to drop it from about 4" above them. i got pretty ticked off and cursed quite loudly multiple times. everyone must think i'm insane. you should've seen me the day i failed 110lb 5x5 BB curl.....i literally threw the bar down onto the preacher curl rack. and when i do deads 5x5, i do the last set with 10 reps. by the time i'm done, my grip is so shot i usually end up dropping the bar when it's halfway down. good thing they've got a nice rubbercoated platform and rubber coated weights for doing oly movements :D

LOL... ya you have to control the rage. Ive droped the bar a few times, the last time I was squating 405 with a friend who came in late. SO by the time he had got to the gym I had already done my leg workout. But I said fuck it and squated with him. So you know 135 no problem 225 ok 275 a little hard 315 ok getting serious well he slaps on 405 and Im thinking no way am I going to puss out so when it came my turn I went down ok went up about 3 inches and back down I went. Its suprising how much noise 405 lbs makes hitting steel pins..LOL. Anyway I know the feeling. One thing about it, it sure is a good motivator to try harder next time.

Failed? No.......not making the attempt is failing........you, just missed the attempt. Let it settle, visualize your form and power attempt at 315, and crank it out next week.

jkurz1 - good point. i tried.

Beast - i will kill it.

i've put some thought into this, i'm going to go for a 305 attempt this week. if i can't get 305, then i'm gonna be ultra ticked off, but that'll tell me that i need to go even lower, maybe down to 295. i'd love to break 300 on my squats. that'd be a real boost for me.

i'd also like to flat bench 225, last max was 200 back in late november. i put 200 up 3x, barely, but i did. this past week, i did 195 1x5, 1x4, 1x2, 1x2, and then not even one rep. i think i'm good for 225 for 2 or 3 reps, but i'd really like to see 245. i think it's gonna be a few more months for that, dunno.

Deads i'm kind of hesitant to go real heavy with. my max so far is 235 x 5. any max deadlift attempts are going to be with a weight i can move for 3 reps. if i can get more than 3 reps, i know i can go higher. i don't want to do a 1 rep max with deads. i think there's just too much risk involved....especialy since i do them RAW.

oh yeah, same with all those squats, completely RAW except for the barbell pad. i stopped using a belt 4 months ago.

thanks for the support. i'm gonna try to kill it again next friday.

ok, i'm ultra sore from yesterday's squat attempt.

i also did Stiff Leg Deads off the floor. normally i do them in the rack on the lowest setting, but 2 people were waiting for the rack, so i let them have it.

i think all they wanted to do was pullups in the rack though.

Good plan brother!! Its easy to get obsessed with 3 or 4 plates per side and just want to jump up 20lbs or more. 300 is right there though, and youll get it and then you can progress to 315 within a few weeks. TRAIN OR FUCKIN DIE!!!!!!

315, is also my goal. its increadibly unrealistic, but i hoping i can do it by summer. im going up pretty fast, last time i barely maxed 225 twice, and today i did it pretty normally 3 times after large reps and i dont really rest in between anything i do for more than 30 second sto a minute.

yeah 225 is also my flat bench goal but same unrealism as above

what makes those goals unrealistic? When I first started training I never thought I would be where I was today, I just kept working at it.

Homeostasis will never be achieved with goals, thats the beauty of it. If you were satisfied with where you are then you wouldnt have a desire to train harder to reach your goals.

keep on squattin'
