*Emphasis mine.

I must confess, I don't understand: why is that a bad thing, man?

declines and dips work pretty much the same muscles.. but then so do inclines and flat :p

why dontcha like declines? they're like benching but you can load up much more weight on them with less shoulder stress. If I thought they were as effective I'd do them all the time

Declines are good, but from a symmertical point of view, don't structure a routine around them.

The upper chest will always need the most emphasis in a chest routine (IMO).

The lower chest recieves a tonne of work in flat BB and DB presses.

That said I see nothing wrong with finishing off chest with 4 sets of decline presses or dips.

Hrm , see the bench sucks. But I may try using a different bench and doing them in the smith rack...

I actually love inclines (should say declines), but only do them every 6-8 weeks for a couple of weeks to make sure i havent lost everything on them and to just hit my chest from a different angle. However, i like to really do a decline, so i put a box or stack 3 25lb plates under the end so i actually get a decline and not mimicing flat as much.

Sorry...should be love DECLINES.

I vote for a compelte waste of time for the declines.

Don't know anyone with a good chest that bothers with them.

Inclines and Flat seem to have the most impact. Chest dips would be preferrable to declines.

IMHO

declines should be ok to do in the smith because the groove is straight up and down pretty much

I'm gonna just declines for chest today, my shoulders are too fucking sore to take flat today

My gym's decline bench is a piece of shit as well. I like doing them but it hurts my legs so i haven't been doing them or Dips...I'll throw some dips in.

pullovers and dips work better for me

i dont care for the posistion i end up in racking and unracking in a decline bench

declines dont do anything that flat doesnt do. My workout for years has been 1/3 flat, and the other 2/3 incline, and check out my avatar

You do an incline fly as well as a press needsize? Thinking of adding these at the end of my routine but don't know if they are useful.

yup, this is the core of my routine, and has been for years
flat bench
incline dumbell press
incline flyes
My chest has gone from okay to impressive by following this approach

Yeah I do almost the same
flat bench
incline dumbell press
incline flyes
But sometimes I do standing cable flyes at the end....

Only when there are no more flat benches available ;)

Ive been useing the same routine for afew weeks now, and love it, much better results than anything else, but not as good as needsize, but good to know what it can turn out

I also add one burn out set on the flat to finish my pecs off

i add in other stuff too, but the extras I change all the time, while the core always stays the same. My gym has dozens of hammer strength machines, so its hard not to play with them at the end of my routines

I'm another advocate of Needsize's chest routine. I have followed it with grrrrreaat results! Hence my earlier comment about not bothering with declines.

Lately I've dropped the routine however due to a different routine that relates to strengthening my lower back, and core muscles. Basically doing my flat BB bench off a fitness ball (get a few plates on the bar and it gives "balance" a whole new meaning!). You can do inclines off the ball, but I just don't like inclines off the ball as much as flat.

I can't wait to get back to the original Needsize chest routine (pattern).

There's a guy in my gym that's been doing heavy stuff on declines for over a year now and his chest looks like that of an 8 year old girl. But of course that could be due to a host of factors other than the excerise he chooses...

My guess is that is one of the guy's favorite chest exercises and that he does them the most and severly neglects the rest of his chest exercises.

I hit them about every 6-8 weeks for a couple of weeks just to give my pecs a change of pace.

whats the diff between doing flat flies compared to inclined?

how does this sound?
incline db press
incline machine
flat bb bench
flat flies
