hey, just wanted some opinions about a hypothetical situation which i may or may not face soon

say you worked within a corporation which had businesses and buildings all across a city. You have the choice of applying to work at any of these buildings, and in the past have done some work experience in some, particularly at one establishment. The job will be for 1 year with no possibility of transfer or quitting and I would have to live in the area i work, possibly on site or close to site . |Pay is roughly the same in all area's

However, even though you can choose any of these buildings, You have only a maximum of 5 choices, and each building has a whole host of supervisors within it of which you would only work with one (so you are applying to the supervisor as opposed to the building, so you could have 5 applications at 'X tower' or 2 in 'X tower' and 3 in 'Y Plaza' etc etc).

which do you go for? The one you have done a lot of work for is the best choice for you, however if you apply all 5 to their and do not get a placement, you will be placed anywhere in the city (some places being really shitty). there are other places you wouldnt mind working at but you have the most experience at this one place

The dilemma is: Do you apply all 5 to the place you like, or apply to places you dont like that much (say in an area not that attractive) as a 'safer' option, as opposed to being placed in the middle of fucking nowhere. Competition varies ofr all the positions as well but you wont know anything for certain until you do apply

thing is if it didnt work out im potentially stuck in the middle of nowhere for a year. would it be safer to say apply for 3 in this one place and 2 'back ups'?

At least for me, at the end money talks. If it's the same money in all of them, attack at least one "safe one" just to be secure. Attractive or not, who cares you are going to work.

pay is roughly the same at all and i would be guaranteed a job for the year at one of the places

downside is if i was to work at the place i would have to move into the area. So technically i would never be leaving the area I work :xeye:

if i applied for a job i would consider what will i get from it ie. if you are desperately in need of money then apply for all of them and if you get it then you have no choice but to move into the area where the job is located, even if it is for one year....at this stage you would be thinking about your survival, and don't worry too much about living onsite etc.....

BUT if money is not so important then apply for the job that opens doors later on in life....ie work experience, knowledge, contacts, then money will come to you later on...

apply for all 5 and don't worry too much about supervisors, they come and go and eventually you would have to learn how to interact with all kinds of people in your working life...

people make sacrifices all the time...

I am fortunate in that I would be GUARANTEED a job for the next year in the area...so thats why I'm being so picky otherwise i'd just go for whatever feeds me. Either way I am guaranteed accomadation and the job which is why I was wondering would you go for your 1st choice all the way or mix and match :)
