hurt neck...when can I work out again GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

I was doing neck excercises a few weeks ago and I pulled a muscle in my neck (or hurt it in some way, anway). Didn't feel too bad, so I continued. That was my Monday workout. Wednesday....worked out and everything felt okay. Thursday...started feeling worse....Friday....didnt' feel that great, but worked out as I normally would. Over the weekend it started feeling worse. Worked out again Monday (stupid, I know) I really fucked it up there. Couldn't bench more than the bar so I eliminated a lot of excercises and used much lighter weight on others. That night I could barely move I was in so much pain. It took me 15 minutes to get out of bed it was so bed....no exageration!

Now. 2 and a half weeks later. I am not in pain and have been going for therapy. My neck is still sore. I worked out Monday with lighter weights and felt stress in my neck...it is not better yet. I really don't want to hurt it more as I can't go through that again....but I have to get back into the gym! I'm dyin' here!

Should I wait it out? Use light weights? (I want to start bulking!)
Anyone else been through this before?

GRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Please help!

Paul

Sometimes you are just fucked. I've been sidelined for nearly 1.5 years with multiple freak accidents back to back - one right after another heals and it's not like I've spent the previous decade entirely healthy either - hell I long for a basic muscle pull. Since weightlifting and heavy physical labor obviously are major irritants getting in the way of healing I suggest you get interested in something else for a bit. Bite the bullet, take up cycling or something else low impact and nonstressful on the spine, pick up a new hobby, spend time with the family, learn to play the piano or paint, do something you've always wanted to do. Use it as an opportunity to broaden yourself. It sucks, believe me - I used to get jealous watching some kids struggle with 135 thinking about being able to do it without pain - but that isn't going to get you back in the gym any faster so that's all you can do. Sometimes it provides perspective when you are forced to separate yourself from your usual routine. All I can really say - the neck is a major deal. You want it healthy, reinjuring it or making it worse could leave you with issues for life.

I transferred to bodybuilding from the automotive scene. It is really damn fun, but I don't have the money for that expensive hobby right now, so bodybuilding it is! I highly recommend modifying a fast car if you have the means. It brings a lot of joy.
