Huge, painless lump = abscess?

I know that an abscess is a lump due to infection and that the surrounding area will be red and warm to the touch, etc.

But what if it isn't warm & isn't red, but there is a huge goddam lump in the muscle?! It doesn't hurt, but it's pissing me off cos I can't hit my right glute til it goes away!

BTW - I've been running antibiotics for acne for ~3 weeks (doxycycline, and now just started dicloxicillin) so infection may be supressed by this??

Thanks guys

Highly doubt it is an abcess. You would have had more symptoms by now. More that likley it is a hematome from hitting a small vein when you injected. Try using some moist heat for a couple of days and you should be fine.

I agree, it is most likely a hematome. Are you experiencing fever, or fatigue? As I understand, some skin infections are resistant to tetracyclines, so it may and may not work. I was on minocyline when I got an infection, and it didn't help it much.

Is it possible it's just the oil (I used ** Fina and v. good Oz prop) still sitting there?
Has anyone w/ a similar 'lump' ever drained it and had good results from doing so?
It really goes against my better judgement to do so (since an abscess is separated from the blood by a thin tissue layer, and bursting that layer wouldn't be good unless all the infectious material was removed)
but... if it's worked for others I'll do it.

Now that you mention it I had a general feeling of malaise (slight fever perhaps and a little fatigue, but a ravenous hunger) a few days back. At that stage I couldn't even apply pressure to the lump in my right glute.
The dicloxicillin isn't a tetracycline... it's a 'new' antibiotic specific for strep & staph bacteria of the lungs and skin... hence it's effectiveness on acne (for me, 500% improvement in 3 days, no shit!) Dunno if the deep-subcutaneous abscess would be effected though by these strep and staph strains. I doubt it.
