I've also been reading a novel called "Operation Proteus" or something like that. Its a time-travel deal where this team of people travel back from 1975 to 1938 to pull together the atomic minds of the day like Einstein & Tellor to help build atomic weapons to go against the Germans.

The whole story gets a bit wild when they start talking about parallel universes & time travel to counter a group of people in 2025 who actually set up the first time link back to Germany to help Hitler win the war w/ superior (future) technology & weapons, set up a world society under Nazi control, then the 2025 people would step back in & take over after the Nazis had created a world that was more to their preference.

Anyway, sort of interesting reading as I'm also a physics major. There are also a few interesting cross plots where Isaac Asimov in the late 1930s is a college student who is writing some sci-fi stuff and Albert Einstein happens to read one of the drafts and identifies a flaw in the science. LOL!

Anyway.. if the Nazis had won, as much as I am disgusted by the idea of a regime like that flourishing, I expect they would've made some progress in turnign over Europe to the "lifestyle" because they managed to do such horrific things on such a grand scale. But I also think that the Russians were putting significant pressure on them. HOwever that's not to say that if the US hadn't' gotten involved or had lost, that the Russians would've pushed out the Nazis & we'd all be under a Stalinist regime. That by itself is a horror.

I'd like to think that the world would not buckle to one evil organization or person like Hitler or Stalin. But I also think that negative, destructive forces like that eventually implode by the very nature of their evil.

I actually think Bush may have a decent heart...but it doesn't matter very much since he always tows the line with mgmt.

That is not to say that there won't always be someone somewhere trying to fashion their view of the perfect society (for themselves). But I think, just like the market, as long as there is freedom of human expression, any attempt to stifle that will evenutally implode because it isn't human nature to be oppressed.

While being known for bashing Bush, I have done little direct bashing. The vast majority of my comments are to the priorities and actions of his admin.

That is who really runs the show. The only way that Bush has really set himself apart...is in vacation days.

It probably speeds things up if they don't have to explain things to him. Just send him a fax.....


The trends to fascism harken back to Truman. Clinton really gave it a big shove however.

For fascism to truly succeed however, a major war is prolly necessary. That is where this admin really seems to shine.

I agree with Sassy in that if the US were not involved in the European theater at least all of Europe would still be under soviet control, if not all of the West. Hitler could never have won WW2 with conventional arms.
