How to offset the higher prices of energy

I don't believe there is much we can do to stop the increasing costs of energy. Conspiracy theories aside ... greed and the global market keep pushing these costs up.

To counter these increases in my personal expenses, I generate money through energy investments to give the increases back to me in the form of growth.

It doesn't take much investment dollars to get the increases back. We aren't talking a windfall here ... just a few more dollars each month.

This allows me to drive what I want and keep the house temp comfortable.

I am not smart enough or lucky enough to select individual companies for a stock investment. I prefer mutual funds.

Here are six of the best:
Fidelity Select Energy. This is where I put a few thousand and it paid me 40% over three years and 54% over 1.

Fidelity Select Energy Service ( 34% and 56%)
Vanguard Energy ( 38% and 46%)
Profunds Oil and Gas ( 38% and 50%)
Fidelity Nat Gas ( 28% and 50%)
Guinness Global Energy ( 62% new)

Something to consider.

good post. Worth a read by all. too often we forget that we too can benefit from some of the unpleasantness out there.

I wanted an energy fund also, but all the minimums were way too high for us. Do any of those funds happen to be 3K minimums?

for long-term growth,,i think a good strategy is defense and oil...defense will grow along with defense spending and the continuation of terrorism (which doesnt seem to be going away any time soon), and oil will grow because of a general supply/demand imbalance...
plenty of good mutual funds out there specialize in these..

Possibly look into ETF's. They have lower expense ratio's and they are like grouped funds, except you can trade them all day. The biggest company that sell them are Barclay's iShares

I currently hold ETF's.
