How strong can you get from plain ol' 3x5? (naturally)

thats all on your genetics bro... also you would have to move on from that at some point and move to the inter. 5x5 then advanced 5x5...

Dunno if BiggT still posts here but he is VERY big and VERY strong and he basically ONLY does a 5x5 type routine and is natty

That's what I was thinking. I've got about 3 years of gyming under my belt, the last year has been serious and started doing the 3x5, I'm gaining strength but I'm wondering when it's going to run out and I'll have to change. Also squatting heavy EOD is getting tedious, i hear you can cut back on 5x5.

as long as you conintue to use periodization you will get stronger. force the body to adapt then change the stimlus and your strength will continue to grow.

But, at some point 3x5 will not be enough stimlus as you become advanced, you may need more volume to get an adaptive response from the body.

Pretty strong I imagine. Although after awhile the 3x5 becomes too hard to do your top set 3 times per workout. At that point I think the 5x5 is a better option.

BiggT doesn't post here anymore.... he posts on another board these days - AF. he doesn't do a 5x5 routine though. i'm not even sure if he ever did.

@ the OP: there's no way to know how far you can go efficiently on a 3x5. the only way is to actually try it.

he doesnt do the 5x5 specifically... but always does heavy compound lifts from 1-5 reps (i try to keep up with his log over at AF ) :)

Basically the point is, you can continue to get stronger/bigger with programming of one sort or another :)

There is no limit as far as strength, or time goes. As long as you are able to move the weight, and keep adding weight to the bar you are gold.

Ride it for as long as you can, for some that will be only a few weeks, for others that could be a very long time.

When you are no longer able to add weight to the bar every week even after giving your body a rest, it is timeto run the 5 x 5 (intermediate) as it has you working up to your current max lifts and then running a stretch where you are adding weight to the bar every week.

When you are no longer able to add weight to the bar every week with the 5 x 5, even after resetting the program back a few times, you move on to the advanced version.

When running the 3 x 5 and then 5 x 5 you'll learn about your body, programming etc.

Here is a great read madcow wrote on his site.
