Just wondering for those of you who train mainly for hypertrophy and more reps/bodybuilding how often do you do switch to strength training?
Steve I hear you on the deloads. Im stubborn and dont ever deload and it costed me a shoulder injury a year back. I remember paul dillet saying once a month you should lift heavy and thats it
it depends. if you are making rapid improvements its a must which it seems like you have.
your tendons and ligaments need a chance to catch up.
ego is a major problem in the gym. there is a young guy probably 18/19 who benched the other day and asked me for a spot.. he said he hurt his shoulder really bad yet he was benching 275+... thats just dumb... i see a lot of guys who go heavy who bitch about shoulder problems.. seems to be a recurring theme, i'm guessing its major tendon/ligament problems in their shoulder and once the problem happens if you don't rest it then it will become chronic
It will come with experience.. you have to listen your body.. I didnt and hurt myself last year. I am keen not to repeat that shit.. I have no interest in the weight I'm lifting I dont care about numbers once it slowly goes up I'm happy. I literally only want to look good. Thats my excuse for being weak and I'm sticking to it..

I understand not caring about numbers but numbers still is relative to how good you look. Constant progression is at least. You can lift light weights and look good but if the numbers dont go up you will look the same.. But I am the same way about numbers it doesnt bother me if I cant lift as much as someone else, I just want to add weight progressively
Thats exactly it, constant steady progression it what its all about..

at your age you can abuse your body more than us older guys.
i remember at that age i was lifting 6X a week and running 3 miles a day in 90 degree weather. this was what was expected of us on the weightlifing team and we all did it. however i remember once i got into college i started getting back problems and i wonder if it was from the pounding i put my body through those 2 years in high school
Def gotta listen to your body. I been battling a stiff si joint for half a year. And ONLY recently I have put the ego aside and stopped squatting heavy ( for now... Until fully healed)
Funny thing , one week of no heavy squats, and my si joint feels a hundred times improved. Who woulda thought .
Maybe its a mobility or form issue then that you do when you start going heavier? Just a thought not sure
It was a form issue from trying to go to big . I remember when it happened. Ever since then I have neglected to properly rest it. I'm finally getting wiser.
