How much weight should a woman lift?

What kind of wheights should a woman be doing for toning and some weight loss? I guess it is best to take very little weight and do more repetitions, and not lift too much? I don't want to get hurt or injured, so want to know how it will be best to train.

resistance training is great for females.. don't worry, you won't grow muscles and body hair.. that is chicks that are using androgenic steroids

use proper form, that is the key. its hard cause a lot of PT's have no clue themselves so your best bet is learning good form from youtube vids from reputable people. (not everyone on youtube has a clue either)

You definitely want to include weight training especially for fat loss. You will get a significant "after burn" from weight training. With cardio only you stop burning extra calories after you are done.

The best answer is both. Resistance training where you fail at 6-12 reps is what sculpts and tones the physique. High rep training also has merit as it will burn more calories but don't neglect resistance training with heavy weights!

Look around your typical gym. Look at the women in the squat rack doing squats and lunges. They are tight, toned and fit. Look at the cardio bunnies. They are all over weight. As they say 'success leaves clues'.

Start your workout off with heavier weights in the 6-12 rep range. At the end of your workout, incorporate some high rep burn out sets to really get the metabolism firing and to totally annihilate the muscle group!
