What's light manual labor? Yard work? Anywhere from $8-10/hour would be fair. Let him negotiate, if he doesn't, pay him as little as possible.

minimum wage to begin with... tell him/her if they are a good worker you'll raise it at the end of the week... but seeing as he/she is only 14 and you could find alot of people willing to work that are older... can drive to the job site and have work exp willing to work for min wage it's more than fair!! it's always better to start low an raise it to the level you feel nec, if you start too high and they don't turn out to be a good worker you'll feel the need to constantly be riding herd... which always sucks!! start low and raise it accordingly is my opinion
