How much protein do you really need to grow? I read some really different reports on optimum protein consumption. Some people advocate as much as 3 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight, others advocate as little as 1/2 grams per pound of bodyweight.

What is your take on it?

reply please!

well from what I have researched... 1-1.5g per KILO is what most recommend.
However just to be on the safe side I take 1g per lean muscle.

I think a good rule of thumb for a strength training athlete is 1 gram per pound of bodyweight. I personally have taken 400 grams per day when in pre contest phase and it worked well for me, but as far as health in the long run, I don't think taking in that much protein on a consistant basis is smart. It will most definitely lead to nephrosis (kidney disease) later in life. Hope this helps!! Also, make sure and drink a lot of water to flush out all the by products of protein breakdown!!

Most nutritionist recommend 1/2g per pnd for MAINTENCE. Hence 1 - 1.5 gm per pound is sufficient for growth.

I do think, however if someone is dieting, more protein is needed to prevent muscle breakdown.
