Correct, as I understand it Jesus was in fact Jewish royalty, a king from a Jewish sect called the Nazarenes. The Nazarene way of life conflicted with the Roman way of life, and as Jesus became more popular and powerful he became a threat to the Roman empire. That is why they crucified him.
