How much equality between the sexes do we REALLY want?

If you account for hours worked and time on the job (experience), the gender inequality becomes very small or even dissapears.

Women often interupt their careers to raise children; and they do so by choice. You can make the argumaent that it's unfair they have to make that choice, but it's what accounts for nearly all the wage inequality these days.

I haven't had kids and not sure if I ever will does that mean I just get the shaft cause I am female?
 
There are many factors that determine one's salary. Are you saying you and your higher paid male counterparts have exactly the same prior work related experience, seniority in the company, education, and performance?

Some I have more experience than some have more experience than I do in the industry. Again some have more seniority than I do some do not. Same with education. All expect for one my performance has been better than over the past year and a half.

When we say "females on average make less than men" it means just that, its an average across many data points. So all of the women who had kids and took time off for thatt, or didnt go to college for the same reason, they are dragging down the average for all the women that went to college and got good jobs and didnt take off for kids.
If you feel youre not making what you should be making, it might just be you dont have the experience, credentials, education etc.

I know cause of the pay grade system in our company and what quartile I'm in if my counter parts are a 2 or 3 and I am 1 with 4 being the high end I know without knowing the exact $$$$ figure.
 
Do you mean males get paid more for the same job in the same company? Pretty sure there are laws against that.

Look at the armed forces & police, men and women get paid the same but women don't have to reach the same standards as men and they're exempt from serving in the infantry yet they get paid the same.


congress makes women exempt from combat roles, not the military..not that I give a shit..I did however give a shit that I couldn't get a bronze star for my service because I COULDNT be by official stance in a combatant situation
and for the record? every exam I have ever taken for emergency services (fire fighting drills and ems rapid extractions ) the standards for women were exactly the same...so fuck yeah I better get paid the same
 
@QT unfortunately a lot of positions such as engineering, IT, mechanics, architecture and others are still VERY male oriented, for every 10 or more men you'll maybe see one woman.

Because equality means:

- women should pay for dinner AND give it up
- rather than saying a man should never hit a woman we have to start saying noone should ever hit anyone.
- Broads need to start holding the door for me
- Father should get equal time off for baby popping?
- Women shouldn't automatically get the house in divorce

- Even in stable relationships I usually split dinner or even treat, if my date insists then I'll get the movie and snack or pay next time, never been fond of letting men paying for my things, it's not fair and I dont like the message it sends.
- It is against the law for anyone to assault anyone regardless of sex.
- I hold doors for anyone that is either elderly, sick, pregnant, behind me, busy, distracted, in a hurry, etc
- A lot of countries, even third world countries have paternal leave, sadly US is not one of those, not everywhere.
- WTF women dont just get the house, lot ot men let the ex keep the house when there are kids, but when there is no babies judges tend to split assets and homes are sold/split, no one gets to just "keep" shit anymore

WTF kinda world do you live in bro? the gap between men and women has been closing and closing, as QT mentioned there are still some bitch ass companies that pay men more than women, but I've never been in one of those, havent really seen that in a long time, when I look for job they state an hourly or yearly salary, regardless of applicants sex.

I will admit though that for me men and women will never be alike, like it or not even our brains work different, our strength is different, why dont we see a lot of chicks in construction? because it's tough! sure I personally can lift one of those 80 pound concrete bags, I'm sure, shirl, qt and others here can too, but truth is your average chick cant, and when we are on our period it's even harder, gotta be realistic, we are not the same

Women don't get a handicap for physical tests in the US military?

The only NATO country I'm aware of that has women in the infantry is Holland. Even there they're usually assigned non combative roles.
