How much does a 7ft olympic bar weigh

Depends, a normal one, yes 45, most comp bars for powerlifting are 55 lbs...
That isn't exactly true, the bar itself weighs 45 lbs plus the competition collars (5 lbs each) makes it 55 lbs. Then you have squat bars that are used at a lot of the bigger competitions. These weigh 55 lbs alone plus collars. Those bars are only used for the squat portion though.

As far as I've ever seen, that is not true, in my federation that is supposed to be "natural" and single ply, they use 55 lb bars on everything, even for the ladies, otherwise the guys with the friggin 500+ bench would be more wobbly than they are already and the big deads would bend everything hence leaving a butt-load of equipment obsolete and useless.

I have lifted in three different organizations (USAPL, APA, APF) and they all use the same rules regarding the bar (except that I don't believe the USAPL allows the use of the 55lb bar for squats). I have also ran several meets and own my own equipment. For my equipment I have a Texas power bar (45 lbs), Texas deadlift bar (45 lbs), and a Passanella Squat bar (55 lbs). The only one that is really springy is the deadlift bar but that is how it is designed, so that it gives a little to help with the lift. These are just better bars than are found in most gyms. I have had several 900lb+ squats attempted on my squat bar, numerous 600+ attempts with the power bar, and 1055 on my deadlift bar for a two man deadlift with no damage.
From IPF Rulebook: 4. Weight of the bar and collars is to be 25 kg.
From the WPC (APF) Rulebook: iv) Weight of the bar and collars is to be 25kg.
The APA page is acting up right now but trust me, it is the same. The collars are what make it 55 lbs.

On a side note, by your post I assume you lift USAPL? And I also noticed you are from Ohio, are you coming up to the Arnold to watch the powerlifting?

Admitted.... I would have personally never thought a 45 lb bar would have the tensile strength, just assumed I knew what i know from what I know...

Throw weights at me and as long as they aren't from a comercial gym I lift them... I might lift them.....

"gotta 40 pound squid in my refrigerator... oooh.... oooh...."

Compliments of "Grape Ape" himself.....

There's an awful lot of punctuation in this post, go figure.... :verygood:

depends on the quality of the bar....I had a cheap bar that I assumed was 45lbs and eventually weighted it at 38lbs....it's just a backup/barbell curl bar now. Most 7ft bars are, however, 45lbs.
