How much cardio do you guys REALLY do?

dsnuts

New member
I know I am in FAT-ASS mode right now. (AKA bulking cycle) I dont do shit for cardio, I figure thats for fools that cant afford GH or T-3.
I need to get my fat ass on a treadmill or something but everytime I do cardio my legs get so gorged with blood that I cant even stand. Maybe its and excuse , but when it feels like I have a thousand Plifter dick sized needles going into my legs it really discourages me. Just curious if I am the only lazy bastard on here. Any suggestions are appreciated.

walk to uni everyday and back (tube, round campus and then back)

kung-fu twice a week, stepping it up to three soon

other than that no....:(

i wanna do more but i have huge problems with getting up early. still that and the lowering of may varbs is gradually getting me weight down

i do cardio about ZERO times a week. im about to change that though, not to lose weight but to get the ticker in better shape.

Not nearly enough...... this bulking thing has been going on wayyyyyy to long. Anyone else have a hard time quit eating all those damn calories?

Ok Jennifer- Will you please come here so I can practice my cardio intensity on you, I mean with you.

Hee hee....... well if you are suppossed to do 20 minutes per day what would you do the other 19? :D :fro:

I'm only doing 20 minutes a day right now... I'm on a mass spree...watch out!!!

Its not how much cardio you do, its how intense you do it!!

well, thats not 100% true, if you wanna keep your muscle, keep your intesity down or youll burn muscle instead of fat. the body is built for survival, itll burn muscle 1st. but everyone is diff.....

Depends what time of year. Usually fall/winter about 10 minutes worth, mon-fri. Spring/summer say 1/2 hour worth mon-fri.

Actually, for ME, doing 1 hour of cardio a day for 3 weeks really did shit for me....

So I went back to 20 mins, 3 times a week, and I'm gaining muslce AND losing fat at a steady rate----

Look at spinters---they are totally cut, and can keep decent muscle size

Then look at cross country runners---they are usually thin with no size

of course if you want to be HUGE thats different......and yes, every one is different

dsnuts--would love to go running with you! :D hum, thats what you meant right?

Personally I think the best way to do it is by hitting the treadmill (it's easiest for me to keep track of everything on there) for 45 min. 5 days a week. I use a good incline (a 7.0 on the gym's machine) at a pace anywhere between 4-5 mph. all depending on my mood. This is for fat loss, not cardio. This keep smy heart rate at about 130-140 and is apparently optimal for fat loss. I've seen great improvement on myself but that's all I can comment on......myself. It all depends on what you're looking for, if it's actual cardio work then go hard but if it's for fat loss then try this idea. I've lost over 15 lbs. and not a bit on my arms since getting off my cycle.

Every type of cardio burns fat

The slow drawn out type burns fat right then and there.....

And the quick intense cardio burns fat AFTER your workout

Either way you will loose fat

Trust me, I do both

But without a clean diet---nothing can really help fat loss

I love it when you talk dirty

WTF?????

C'MON JEN, YOUR PARA-PHRASING RIGHT OUT OF THE BODY FOR LIFE BOOK...ACTING LIKE YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT.

I didn't mean that my way is the only way to burn fat, just that generally it doesnt dip into muscle energy like hard cardio does. Hard cardio uses whatever it can get it's hands on while the drawn out method generally targets fat from my learning. I also agree...without proper diet, cardio is nothing. Same with working out either "off' or "on". Diet is everything.

Diet is the most important, if your calories aren't under maintenance you ain't gonna lose shit. Second, high intensity cardio isn't bad, you aren't necessarily gonna lose muscle, especially if you do it on an empty stomach or post workout (you are glycogen depleted then). Your body burns carbs first, fat, then protein, its the same reason why ketogenic diets work. The bottom line is that at the end of the day its all about cals, if you burn more than you consume than you are gonna lose bodyfat.

Actually, I REALLY workout

I have done them both----and feel both are great in any form of fat loss program

is that you what do? Just say what you read?

You should all check out this link clickhere

it expains high intensity cardio very well

Like I said, I do both--80% high intensity, 20% low intensity

It works---trust me, I have lost a ton of fat this year, AND still took a free day every week

i do an hour and a half twice a week, two 80 minute rugby games on top of that, and 45 every day of the week that has'nt been covered already. well that was up until i broke my collar bone, but i'm going to start soon.

I use to be the cardio queen---ran for an hour, then took an step class, THEN did weight training

Your body gets use to it---and you just end up doing more, and more, its NOT fun after a while

Great link! thanks :)

I'm telling ya, high intensity cardio is not only great for fat loss, but it seriously gives you a "high" feeling

You have so much more energy during the day as well

I'm with Jennifer....

I have periods where I go cardio crazy and then I just get fed-up with it and I slack off....right now I'm in crazy mode so I'm hungry all the damn time - but proud of myself!!!

I've gotta find a happy medium!! Wasn't it Aristotle who talked about the Golden Mean?? I wonder if Aristotle had a six pack??

Well, when I was doing 2 hours of cardio a day, I was small, and had A LITTLE definition---plus I was hungry and tired all day

Now that I'm dong the intense stuff---I'm losing only FAT, and I'm not hungy and have more definition at 158, then I did at 135

I love this part of the link Hoffmeister posted

"Overall, the evidence suggests that HIIT is the most efficient method for achieving fat loss. However, HIIT carries a greater risk of injury and is physically and psychologically demanding (10), making low- and moderate-intensity, continuous exercise the best choice for individuals that are unmotivated or contraindicated for high-intensity exercise."
