How much can you bench ?

New member
I get asked this question all the time, everytime i see 1 of my old freinds who know nothing about weightlifting yet think they are the new hot shit.
How much can you bench? who cares f**k off lol.
Then it's the old you should come to this gym i go to, there are sted heads benching 80 kg and big fat guys benching 200kg, they don't use those 20kg weights what you use, they use those big 50kg weights its a proper hardcore gym.
When i ask them about the squat rack they decribe the only smith machine in the gym and say no 1 does that. But those big fat guys can do loads on the leg machine thingy. The old freinds i describe are the typical 3 sets of bench press 1 million sets of curls type people. And everytime they see me it's always how much can you bench. What do you say to fucktards who won't stop asking you how much you can bench ? Give me your funny responses. ;)

i can bench press your mother and 4 sisters at once while they fuck/suck me down.

but seriously... i get asked that question too. worst thing is that there are a few guys who are max 180 (5ft10 to 6ft) after 4-5 yrs of lifting. so dudes ask me "how much can you bench?" and i ask them "how much do you squat/deadlift?". they tell me there's no use training legs

If it is my friends who don't work out being douche bags, I come off with something equally as douche baggish like "Not as much as you" or "I don't lift weights, its dangerous". If it is a kid or someone with an honest inquiry, I'll tell them. My favorite is "how much can you lift?"...how does one reply to that?

Some kid about 11 or 12 came up to me in Wegmans the other night and asked me if I was a WWE wrestler, lol, I thought that was pretty cool.

Actually, a funny story, and cool too, some guy I met at a family function a few years ago was there as a guest of one of my aunt's and he was about mid-60's and he and I got to talking about lifting. He asked 'how much can you press?'....so I told him, and he said 'wow, thats not far behind Patera or Alexeev'....then it instantly dawned on me he was talking about the OVERHEAD press, so I cleared it up, lol...but that was awesome that someone asked that question and actually meant overhead lifting.

By the way Solar Climax, cool thread, when I first saw it and saw who posted it, I was like "no way", I know this guy and he posts good shit, there is NO WAY he has a gay how much can you bench poll on here, lol.

Question: "How much can ya bench?"
Answer: "I don't, but I can pull your house!"

Other Options:

"I don't give out numbers on a first date."
"Your Mom."
"More than you can deadlift."
.... usually get a blank stare with that one.

If it's a sincere question, I provide a sincere answer.
If not, I usually say:
"I can benchpress only the bar, with no plates on"

I just lie.

Yeah, I get stuff similar to that. "Hey, do you even workout?" And sometimes, people ask, "Hey, are you a marathon runner? You're awfully scrawny." Damn kids. No respect.

Lol i ripped off one of your lines dude...last night i went to this block party in my home town and ran into some asswipes from highschool...ya know the type that were too good to say 2 words to me then but now act like my best friends...the one kid comes up to me and he's like "holy shit you got huge since high school" followed by none other than "do you lift weights" lol...so i told him no i dont its too dangerous and he just staired at me with the blank look on his face

I pick a number between 600 and 800, but it doesn't matter because they usually have a buddy who can do double that.

No one ever asks me what I bench :(

On a related note, one time I was at GNC and 3 heifers walk in to pick up some EAS stuff. They get in line and the leader asks me if I'm there picking up my stuff for the Body Transformation challenge. I say 'uh, no' and she says 'Oh. Well you should think about working out'

I'm not a big guy anyway and the weather was cold so I was wearing a heavy coat, but still, now I look like a 'before' picture? :worried:

LoL Ain't that the truth!! Or, they "benched [insert your number here plus 50] back in high school but hurt [insert injury]."

There's a huge guy in my gym who I spotted shoulder pressing 315 for 8 full reps, seated. Truely something to watch.. but right after this little, fat, bald guy came over to tell us he used to press 405 for reps until he hurt his shoulders.

People's insecurity knows no limits :)

Yeah, I used to press 315x10 back in college but I strained that one tendon . . .you know how it is. Now I have to use machines and go pretty light b/c my doctor said to.
