How many sick days do you get at work?

I am writing a employment handbook for my staff. I really only had one week of vacation after one year, two weeks after two years, three weeks after 5 years and 4 weeks after 10 years. I am thinking about limiting the sick days to 6 a year? I hate to do that but one person on my staff is abusing me being laxed on it.

What is your company policy or if you have your policy how many vacation days and how many sick days do you get?

3 wks vacation
3 days paid sick / family emergency
2 days unpaid

Don't you have a policy in your place where you can "talk" to the employee who's abusing the policy?

That is what I am saying I really don't have a policy about sick time. So right now I guess the sky is the limit. So six days sounds fair to you?

We get ten days as soon as you are hired. The amount never changes.

Vacation days start to accumulate over the first year to total ten days. You are allowed to carry over only half of that amount and remainder has to be used before your annual raise…if you are entitled.

It jumps to fifteen days in your fifth year and twenty days in your tenth year.

I'd go with at least half of it unpaid.

3 Sick Days
3 Personal Days
2 weeks vacation

I got all of this the day I was hired, which is exceptional. However, I haven't taken a vacation in three years because of a lucrative profit sharing plan.

None. It sucks. I either have to use personal time or vacation-- in the last 2 years I've used 90% of my personal/vacation time on 2 wrist surgeries and other appts.

Where i work you start accumulating sick days on your date of hire and you earn 1 day per month or 12 per year. They will allow you to accumulate up to 20 and they also allow you to take them before they are actually earned. (pretty nice eh)

For vacation days, we get 2 weeks the first year and 2nd year; 3 weeks the 3rd year; and 4 weeks every year after that.

I get 2 sick days per month and they accumulate up to 365 I believe and 4 weeks of holidays per year.

13 days per year, can accumulate forever or until i retire.

Anywhere from 0 hours to 40 hours, it's up to my manager's discretion. We don't have an employee handbook, and we are a multi-national corporation. Our company really cares for us.

Sounds fair to me..........also insist that they get doctors notes for periods over say 3 days (is that possible in the US? It works in the UK because we have free health services).

Incidentally, do you ask peolpe to declare any existing health problems before they start working for you?

Incidentally, teachers have it easy over here. You can take alomost half the year off before they reduce your wages by 50%. Easy number if you have a permanent contract and arent bothered about getting promotion.

curling,

i am extremely happy that i do NOT work for you!!!!

five days per year, but have never called in sick in the thirty-onemonths i have been employed there. i used the phrase 'called in sick' because with a few exceptions, most people are not really physically ill to the point where they cant work.

I get 3 floating holidays and I really don't know how many sick days. I know a few employees are always out sick so must be quite a few.

unlimited sick days. Even the hint of sniffles and you stay home.

5 weeks paid vacation and you can carry over as many days as you want. This year I am only carrying over one week as I took off every friday in the month of Dec., so I'll have 6 weeks paid vacation starting on Thursday.

I forgot to add the additional 8 paid public holidays. Thayt will leave me with only about 8 weeks paid leave for next year.

Wow I think i might beat some people out here!!

15 days vacation (3 wks)
5 personal days (1 wk)
Unlimited sick days!

curling, do you mean that somebody is abusing the sick leave policy because you won't enforce it?

I would assume since you are in a management position, YOU HAVE TO ENFORCE THE RULES!

Screw rewriting policy because of one shithead. Enforce what you've got.

I mean, really!! What is a good Christian supposed to do? Turn the other cheek?
