How Long?

How long does "wasting" take to occur once HIV/AIDS has entered the system??.....would this be a symptom of HIV/AIDS, or from the meds that one has to take once diagnosed

Thanks

In my experience at this time there is no steadfast guarantee that someone infected with HIV will suffer from wasting. It is common, absolutely but with the meds and more so the nutrition information combined with support from outside and inside the medical field for the use of AAS in the treatment of wasting it is something that can be for the most part can be stemmed by early and swift action.

One of the more prevalent aspects of body composition problems asssociated with HIV/AIDS is Lipodistrophy from some of the medications and possibly the virus itself. This manifests in different ways but the most obvious being the facial wasting (that skeletal look, sunken cheekbones,) the hard distended barrel belly which is a redistribution of bodyfat from the extremities to the midsection (fatty deposits actually surround the internal organs,) and sometimes upper back and neck area. That vascularity in the arms and legs with the skin taking on a rough but thin look.

This is the "Look" for many of us with HIV/AIDS and is the telltale sign but not for all. Myself, I refused to take any AIDS drugs until I was diagnosed with AIDS related Cancer 4 years ago and by doing so I avoided some of the "Med Mistakes" that were part of the late 80's and 90's where dosing and combinations were far from an exact science. There are solutions though. Some of them are pretty hardcore but a lot of it has to do with diet, getting enough protein, keeping your fats down and doing cardio combined with resistance training.

If I may ask, what is your interest? Maybe I can help you with some suggestions if your asking for yourself or a friend.

Be Safe, Oliver

dang bro.....excellent post
I am very interested in learning about HIV/AIDS and I also teach to younger students in community

Also I have what looks like to be possibly thrush....and have been sick often which are HIV/AIDS related illnesses and am going to be tested very soon.......hopefully Monday

I have always taught about HIV/AIDS but have never really have any clue what it would be like until my scare that I have now...

I respect each and every one of you for sharing your views on the board.....I think the knowledge that you all are sharing will prevent a future case and possibly save a few people from going through terrible hardships....thanks for your response

My wife lectures at universities all across the country and we do many workshops and public speaking engagements at schools, clinics, jails and rehabs together. Both of us are very public about our situation. If we can prevent one person from becoming infected then our efforts have been rewarded. I hope your test comes back negative but if it doesn't there is much hope.

Ten years ago I was told that I was dying and again 4 years ago. I am in better health now than a long time and feel comfortable saying that I'll be around for at last another ten years. That's something I haven't been able to do since I tested positive. I have a beautiful wife and an awesome marriage, we train together everyday. Knowing what it's like to live with this bug makes it so much easier for me to take care of her when she gets sick and vice versa. We are starting a personal training business specializing in Health and Fitness for HIV+ positive Women and Men. And we are in the process of making a "Safer Sex, Safer Life" video for schools across the country. Education is the answer to stemming this epidemic.

If you want to see what AIDS can look like I posted some pictures in the members pics section.

Good Luck Man.

Ollie
