how long to cut?

skinnyfat

New member
I have managed to go from 6% bodyfat to 10%. How long will it take to lose this fat? I've gained about 20 lbs, 8 of which are fat, and the other 12 water and a little muscle. How fast can I lose those 8 lbs of fat? If I am aiming to lose 2 lbs of fat/week, should I actually be losing 3 lbs/week, because I will also lose water and muscle? That way, I could lose 2 lbs fat, 1 lb lean mass.

.

you can lose that weight in more or less then time span you want.

Depending on how strict a diet you are willing to go on. But losing it fater will take its toll on your body it all depends on how your body responds. Some people respond better too losing weight faster (keeping more muscle), while some people (like me) need more time to lose it to keep they'rem muscle. Just experiment and see what your body likes.
One of the main rules of body building "know your body and how it reacts"

Jaap,

So do I just go back to eating the what I was eating when I was 6%, or should I be cutting calories?

I figure, my maintenance calories for my new weight is higher, so if I go back to eating what I was, I should go back to that weight. Or do you think I have to eat less than I was when I was maintaining 6%, because I have to actually get back there first?

hmm well it kinda depends on what them 20 pounds you gained are. you said 8 are fat and the other 12 are mostly water. Hmm i think 12 pounds of water weigth gain is a lot. Although if you were completly "dried ip" before you gained this weigth it could be possible.

But you said yourself that you feel your new maintanance cals is a little higher. What i would do, is to just eat a little more cals then you used to to maintain. (Although you said you were maintaining at 6% bodyfat, either you have great genetics or you were undereating then). And try to lose mayb 2 pounds a week.

If i wasnt losing the weigth i would jsut go down another 200 cals or so and see if i made my weigth the next week. But like i said dieting is walking a fine line between losing fat and muscle. You need to know your body. Use general guidelines which have worked for many people out there and change them to suit your body.

THanks, Jaap.

I was maintaining 6% bodyfat with a lot of cardio and restricted calories.

But, if I am losing 2 lbs of fat a week, shouldn't I be losing more like 3-4 lbs of scale weight per week, because I will also be losing water and some muscle? I'm wondering what those other 12 lbs are. I'm not a WHOLE lot stronger, so it is probably not a lot of muscle. Maybe bone mass?? Probably a good deal water--about 8 lbs (I hope). Or else I gained a lot of visceral fat which didn't show up on the skinfold tests.

I know I sound like an idiot, but I had worked so hard to get lean, and just blew all that hard work away, which has gotten me depressed, so now I want to get back in shape ASAP.

Another thing--As I was ballooning up, I took Biotest t-2 in hopes of combatting the weight gain. I was using double the suggested dose, but only for a few weeks--one cycle of 4 weeks, 4 weeks off, then another week on. Do you think I wrecked my thyroid? Will it ever repair itself? I doubt the damage is that bad, because I sure as hell didn't get any results from it, and I heard that people who use cytomel lose weight eating a pretty bad diet, so T-2 must not even come close to the real stuff.

That 2 lb's is scale weigth. The first week you will ose a lot more probably because at that time you will lose most of your water weigth if you keep you water intake high and sodium low off course.

Look at it this way, 1 gr of fat has 9 cals. Thus 1kg (2.2 lbs, yeah i use the metric system :p) has 1000x9=9000 cals. If you stay about 200 cals per day below your maintenance you have a deficate of 200x7=1400 cals a week. You come no where close to losing the full 2 pounds in fat weigth.

oh forgot to answer the thyroid thingy :p

Ehm well my answer is that i cant answer this for you. I have no experience with any kind of drugs so i would be hypothesising and there are guys on here with heaps of knowledge about drugs thyroid and others. I know t2 is otc but supp are made to have drug like effects and thus someone with experience with thyroid drugs should have more knowledge then me.
