How Long Do You Rest Between Sets?

I JUST STARTED WORKING OUT AGAIN, AND I AM LITTLE WEAK FROM MONTHS OF INACTIVITY. I WORKED OUT TODAY AT THE BOSTON SPORTS CLUB, AND I WAS WONDERING HOW LONG SHOULD YOU REST BETWEEN SETS? SORRY BOUT THE CAPS.

Until you're ready to go again. With a heavy set of squats, I might wait 3 and a half minutes, with a set of curls, I might wait one minute or so. It's an individual thing, really.

It varies for me..Usually between 1-3 min between sets depending on how I feel that day. I do not hit another set until I feel I can go 100% at it

Just think of it like logjammin'. You're not going to go again until you're sure you're ready, otherwise, your performance may not be up to par.

I agree..

usually 1 min. If Quads, Bench, etc. then 3 min.

This is a good bench mark I do it this way too. If you wait too long between sets you start to wane. I feel you need to keep up your intensity and if you fall short a rep then give yourself another 30 seconds but then hit it with VERY STRICT FORM and nail the F'kin set!!

Ussually at least two minutes on heavy compound lifts, around 1 to 1 1/2 on concentrated lifts. Really it's about like everyone else has said, when you feel you can hit it at 110%.

I actually have been using a lifting log on my Handspring Visor to keep up with what I am doing in the gym. It keeps it all up, will tell me my intensity level, when to increase to what weight on an intensity setting, and graph it all out. It also keeps track of lift times and beeps when it is time. I am getting real f'ing lazy. The Palm platform is turning my brain to mush, I have to remember nothing.

HEY FarBeyondDriven, SORRY IF I HAVE NOT KEPT UP THE JARGON, BUT CAN YOU TELL ME THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEAVEY COMPOUND LIFTS AND CONCENTRATED LIFTS?

To be honest, I don't keep track of time between sets at all. I just rest til I feel ready. I guess it's about 1-2 minutes though.

Compound being a squat, deadlift, press, requiring several muscles. Concentrated is more like fly's, dumbbell curls, kickbacks. My jargon my be off but that is just the way my mind works.

i usually wait til my hardon goes away( watching the hotass bitches look at me while doing a set) then i go back at it...one side effect of Test..lol..

Ussually wait whatever is necessary, if its 1 min then its 1 min, if its 5 mins then its 5 mins all depends also how much effort you put into the previous set, if you do a mad drop set starting with your 6 rep max then it might be sensible to wait about 3-4 minutes
