How did alcohol get legalized and tolerated and indulged in by much of society yet marijuana is kind of something you have to keep "secret"...??
hi. yes im high right now.

You can 'test' for alcohol and 'see' it, thus MONEY can be extracted from it's excessive usage.

The MONEY in pot is derived from the justice system.

MONEY.

History International had a doc on drug use a while back. The premise, European cultures prefer stimulants and alcohol over "mellow" drugs. The East had a different tendency, they like the mellow stuff.

However, I blame it on politics....just like everything else. Too many people culturally accept alcohol Vs. pot, which is why prohibition failed.

your saying because you can get popped by the cops easier for booze is the reason it's legal? doubtful, think the social standards for our forefathers and the history of the nation, is the reason. Tobacco same

the state spends money to keep criminals in jail also

and actually now, you can test now for the levels of THC in the blood, but who's to chose what's "too high" is the question

the taxing of legal cannibus would put to shame any $$$$$ of criminal DUI fine combine, tobacco does multi billions

Simple. Blacks smoked dope for a long time in the fields etc and the white boys didn't. The powers to be wanted to keep it that way.

You guys put to much thought into things.

i thought the first anti-weed laws originated along the mexican-american border (in Texas, if i recall) as a means of controlling the mexican population.

obviously booze has more of a history with the euros who settled this land.
but it's a great time if you're a fan of tweeds...states are decriminilizing left and right
michigan past a decrim bill this year...it's spreading, esp in this economy, great way to cut
policing costs.
legalize weed and spend the extra loot on more police

i would much rather hang out with someone who has been smoking teh tweed than drinking. much less beligerent.

they are both fun things to do.

the u.s. should legalize mushrooms.

that would make everything interesting.

Yes. You can 'smell' alcohol and boom, probable cause to give a test. You can 'see' bad driving and boom, probable cause to give a test.

You can't 'see' marijuana usage when you pull someone over. And if you give a test to someone, they can sue you in court for racism, sexism, picking on them just cuz they're young, long hair, whatever, blah blah blah.

Plus drunk driving kills people. Marijuana doesn't.

Corporate America does not want people doing some ganga before going to work. I'm a business owner and I'll fire someone if they did either.

Why do people keep forgetting who actually runs this country? Who do you think owns your ass for 40 hours a week? Ask your boss if it's okay to smoke a bit of weed before work every day and post back your answer. If your boss won't allow it, what makes you think corporate america, who own Presidents, will?

And don't even post 'Americans are smart enough' to know to do it at home, after work, in their living. You seriuosly don't think there'll be some stupid americans who do a tiny bit before work (or even at work) every day??

rg's right, it's about money......or the lacktherof for the govt. Alcohol can be regulated and taxed because you have to go to govt. liscensed vendors to buy decent alcohol. Of course you could make moonshine in your basement......but think of the multi billion dollar industry built up around you going to a bar and having a drink. Could they do that with weed? yes, but the returns for uncle sam would be immeasurably lower because weed is kind of easy to grow yourself. Yes, alot of people would rather just head out to the local cannibus club, if it was legal.....instead of trying to grow their own. But anyone who's grown weed themselves knows how hooked you get.........you become like the fucking julia childs of weed growin. So then of course you get good at it and you sell to your friends.....if your shit is "right" they'll stop going to the local cannibas club and uncle sam loses his tax revenue. It's possible they eventually legalize "liscensed dealers".....but they'll have to clamp down even harder then on personal growers. And the first guy they tried to jail for growing his own stick would go straight to the supreme court and ask them why he can walk down the street and buy something from uncle sam but not grow it at home............and he would probably win. They know that, therefore they keep it illegal.

Pot also makes people less "conformist", allows them to think more for themselves.............that's also a big no no in this country. When they want to go to war with some other superpower for some tiny little shit piece of land that no one gives a fuck about, they need yesmen that'll go to war because uncle sam said so. They can't tolerate free thinkers in a society such as ours.
