I have never thought about my confidence whilst growing up. Time did not permit me to evaluate if I was confident enough to reach my goals. What was expected of me was to study, work hard and get to the top or at least be amongst the top in my class/career (whatever the activity).

The confidence stigma that people talk about was not talked about in my family. It was expected to be confident no more questions asked. Looking back the word confidence was translated something like this "you work hard and think smart - you achieve, if you don't you sink" As simple as that.

also, its super important. i try on different personas when im out and about (funny guy, nice guy, angry guy, agressive guy, sexy guy etc) and when youre confident, you lead the convo and ultimately control the outcome. i used to go out with a guy who was super good looking, but without any confidence, and he used to get nothing. NONE. girls would like him from afar, talk to him, and be turned off. meanwhile i would zoom in and have a girl within a half hour and he'd be saying WTF
